Did you know that it is illegal for retailers i.e. gas stations to charge you the credit card price when using your bank/debt card. And that you should report them to the 1-800 number on the back of your card?

Depends on if I have the cash in my pocket. If I don't have the cash it go on the card... If there is a cash discount it well be cash.

Quit a few stations in SoCal do this. Its frustrating to see a low price posted then realize its cash only, or with a wash.

This is becoming more common. How many are out there that you have to have membership to buy from?

we had a small gas station affilated with a grocery store. The store had cetain items that gave you cents off your gas up to 15 gallons. If you got everything you could get your gas free which the people that did that got their pictures on the wall of the store. The station also gave an additional 3cents for paying with cash at the register. Nice thing about that was they always had fresh donuts sitting there also! The store has since closed and along with that the station.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Deceiving isn't it?! I guess they figure once your there, you're not going to leave so why post the higher price? The other one that gets me is: Price with Wash vs price w/o Wash. You really have to look closely.

This category is "How did you find us?", and is to "Tell us how you found our website."
I'm not sure what this topic, "Cash vs Credit card prices", has to do with how you found this website.

I won't go to a station that does this. Usually they do it to cover the costs of accepting credit cards, I figure if you cant afford to do it than don't/\. I want my credit card points, and I'm not going to pay more to get them.

Try my best to avoid a station that will not take my card same as cash. I have an air miles card.

You have to look carefully for how they treat credit/debit cards. This is usual just the small off brands operators.

Stations charge more for credit card transactions because the credit card processing companies charge them a percentage of each sale to process it. If at all possible pay with cash.

If you post the cash price instead of the credit price, you get misdirected to the higher priced gas station if you only use plastic to pay for gas.

I always just use Cash! I refuse to use ANY Credit! Why would I EVER pay MORE when I can pay less! I can't afford an 8-30¢+ JUST for the form of payment I am using! That's CRAZY! I will go to the ATM & take out Cash if I don't have it & MANY stations around me in MA got rid of the Cash/Credit price system this past Fall/Early Winter. They know have only ONE Standard price & kept the Lower Cash price! Always paying an average of 10¢+ per Gallon just for using a Credit card vs. Cash is foolish because it really DOES ADD UP! Unless you have some special Credit Card that gives you a % back reward, but do you still break even or make $$$ after the Credit Card Price increase or would you just be spending the same or less if you paid the Cash price? I'll always pay CASH!

I like that some gas stations use the "cash or card" system but it can be a pain sometimes because you don't always have a full tank of gas worth of cash with you.

I used to pay with credit card so I could track all my gas spending. Now I'm just going to use cash and my memory to track. Unbelievable.

I can't believe that so few Gas Buddies care about this subject. In my opinion this is a central topic to the whole GasBuddy experience. The website and the smartphone apps should be upgraded to include the everybody prices and adding a place to indicate the cash price differential if any. The correct way at this point is to post the everybody prices and in notes to indicate any cash differentials.
I buy all of my gas with a credit card because I always fill the tank at each gas stop. I always get a receipt and write the vehicle mileage on each receipt. This allows me to monitor my vehicles fuel efficiency regularly. I can't understand buying gas $20 dollars at a time and having to go inside to pay. What a drag.

Really? Does anyone really want to pay with cash for gas? If stations get you to go inside their station, they are more likely you will buy some other items, compared to paying by cc at the pump!

Here in the Houston area, a lot of the Citgo stations list their "cash card" price. Actual price at the pump if you pay any other way is 10-15 cents higher. Many of the GB posters consistently post the price on the sign which is the "cash card" price.
