Gas prices continue to rise, even though crude prices are continueing to trend downward. Prices are up $0.24 in my area so far this year. Do you think that refiners are trying to increase their already large profit margins, are increases political or is there some other reason the public is having to pay such a large premium?

Really, it was explained to you that "terminals" can manipulate world commodity prices? I'm in the wrong business.
Retail gas prices trail crude trading prices. Take the time to pull up the gasbuddy price charts and see for yourself. Between December 23rd and December 29th, crude prices rose over 20%. During the same time, gas prices fell. Between the 29th and january 6th, crude rose another 20%. Gas prices rose 10%.
Since the 6th, the price of crude has fallen, while gas prices have risen about 3%.
We are far from the peak demand season, which means retailers have fuel in their tanks longer, and price change is slower. This may not satisfy your hunger for someone to blame, but it really does explain price movement.
