only gas joke I know I was in the restaurant yesterday when I suddenly realized I desperately needed to pass gas. The music was really, really loud, so I timed my gas with the beat of the music.
After a couple of songs, I started to feel better. I finished my coffee, and noticed that everybody was staring at me....
Then I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my iPod.

Wah.
As far as being here to win a gas card - it's lottery-like odds, take it for what it is, an incentive, but not a reward to be "earned". Lots to be learned (and contributed) here - not just about the current prices, but energy issues generally.

this site is great to help you find the best price around. right now gas varies by about 30 cents a gallon in my area from the cheapest to the most expensive. Its about it costing you $55 dollars to fill your tank instead of $60

I for one report prices when I see them.If they change later it is not my fault. We all know you can see a price when you enter a place come out and it has changed. I also like giving my opinion and reading others. Some are funny and some are serious. If we watch gas prices and continue until we find one cheaper if it is on our way that is a form of boycott.

If you are on this site to "earn" gas cards, you are missing the point. If you use this site, you can save just as much money by getting gas at the right location, and help others to do the same. It is supposed to be a community to help everyone save as much money on gas as possible and reward stations that sell for a little less, at least IMO.

If this was the Bobby D. Martin, than I can see that GasBuddy is not as exciting as Legg's Lounge. (Google or Bing it.)

Sorry to see you leave. There's really a lot more value to this site than just gas cards.

What good would a 2 dollar gas card do?
Next time take that tin foil hat off before you stick your head in the microwave.

Forgetting that the suggestion is inane to begin with, you'd prefer they give out $250 in gift cards a month instead of the current $250 gift card each week?

Who is "everyone"..all the drunks at the bar? This site must be doing something right, since print and broadcast media use it to report on gas pricing trends. Crowdsourcing is not perfect in the particular, but works quite well in amassing data. Yes, some people post wrong prices. But most do not, and I have saved lots of money over the years. See ya, CG.

hey, i admit it - i was lured in by all the free beer and brats every wednesday night. heck, i didn't even mind that the beer wasnt always leinenkugle, but then most guys like me will drink most any beer - as long as it's free.
gas cards? hahahaha, if that's why you joined, uffda, yer the fella that bot the bridge to the ocean front property in arizona, right?
post for points? holy uffda, i post to let folks know what gas prices are in my end of the state. many times, when driving on a trip here and there, either i or my wife, will write down all of the prices we see to help folks find gas at the best prices. I only get points for posting 5 prices, but many many many many times, i'll post 18 just here alone in our county seat town - yet i only get credit for 5 prices, and like when we drive to sioux city or to des moines, i'll sometimes post as many as 30-40 prices going and coming back home, so a total of 60-80 prices - why shouldnt i post em? i wish you - mr gcgas would do that to help all of we drivers out with finding the best price - which in turn helps pump prices go down more then most of the stupid boycott ideas on here. oh well
back to the win a gas card, heck we all think it would be nice to win one, hells bells, it would be nice to win the power ball lotto too, but if everyone had your outlook, no one would play? dayum .
i also doubt that anyone will delete your post, and i'll copy and paste it here to make sure that at least you don't delete it: - While they are making money hand over fist on advertising, they display wrong prices, send on wild goose chase, prices posted not right. I know it's us that post them, but alot of people must just post what they want for points.... I know I was lured into this site thinking it would be nice to win $250 in gas, but look at the winners, 10s of thousands of posts (or more) another money making gimmick, I bet they all work or are affiliated with this site (whoelse would spend that much time here) I bet this post gets deleted real fast. I'm outta here, have fun all. Bobby Martin Garden City signing off....heh
[Edited by: GCGAS at 5/31/2011 2:45:27 PM EST] - there ya go bobby martin of garden city - have a gassy day

I must be missing something obvious but who is displaying wrong prices?
Prices are posted, not buy Gas Buddy management (or even in the manner that MSN posts gas prices) but by the voluntary posting by "members" of this website. Gas Buddy overtly says "As this site depends on visitor price updates, Maryland Gas Prices is not responsible for information inaccuracies, inconsistencies or errors." You can't blame Gas Buddy because you or I mistyped and posted the wrong gas price, or because you or I simply posted a price we saw the day before or the day before that.
As for being lured into this site, how were you "lured"? Did you really expect that there would be a lot of winners or that they'd give out thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes to people who don't pay to join the website and who get points by posting one gas price five times or by posting one word or one number responses to "a message thread"? This is simply a relatively small website that has advertising that pays for the operation of the website; I have no idea how much, if any, profit they might make, and really don't care; I simply use the gas prices posted as guidelines for my shopping.
As for the winners having 10s of thosands of posts (or more), the most recent and third most recent winners have been members for less than a month and have less than 16,000 points each. (The second most recent winner hasn't come forward yet, which is a requirement to be listed on the winners list). The fifth most recent winner has been a member for nearly four years but has under 12,000 points (meaning he's averaged in a year about what most people earn in two days). The sixth most recent winner has been a member less than three months and has less than 22,000 points. The eighth most recent winner has been a member for exactly 60 days and has just over 10,000 points. And the eleventh most recent member has been a member for under three months and has just over 24,000 points.
For a side comment, I don't believe any of those I mentioned above has more than one consecutive day posting gas prices, message, reading the news storiers, or taking part in the weekly poll.
But, you're suggesting that the people they pick as winners are really working for Gas Buddy or affiliated with this website? Why? To save $250 a week? In any event, why would they want people working for them to spend their time posting on the website? Wouldn't you want them to do real work, the work you're paying them to do?

Are you smart enough to realize that gas prices change daily? I've seen some stations change their prices 2 or 3 times a day. It's hard to keep up with the constant change, but most everyone here on GasBuddy try their best.
As far as points, you get a maximum of 750 for posting gas prices, max of 100 for posting messages, and a max of 125 for news articles for a total of 975 points possible per day. They add up quickly.
Now no one is forcing to stay here or post. If you don't like the site, you can leave just as fast as you came!
