I've been populating forums because I hate these things- Love Bugs. I love my truck and just hate to drive when these things come out. So I was goofing off on Facebook and came across this guy in JAX who sold these things called Love Bug Erasers. For the name alone, I was cynical, but it was like $5, so WTH.

Actually worked, but it could be a bit bulkier. Maybe fold it over, IDK. Used it on my kayak later, too. It seems like a basic sponge but more durable. Was a bit rough, so I was skeptical, but it actually did soften up- used it on the plastic wells first.

Pretty stoked on it actually.

Good luck.

I used a dryer fabric softener sheet. Either a used one or a new one with soapy water, cleans the bugs off and does not damage either the paint or plastic. I use it on the plastic headlights also.
I like to put a good oat of rain-ex on the windshield before driving during bug season. They come off so much easier with rain-ex on the windshield. Do not use it on anything other than glass.

I'm a traveling salesman. 200 or so miles a day. During the 2 lovebug seasons, I just put a heavy coat of wax on all frontal surfaces (not on headlights or windshield, thank you), the just quickly rub bugs and wax off at the motel parking lot. Next morning, repeat. Cuts clean off time to less than 5 minutes. AM fresh coat of wax, another five minutes. Sure beats the 20 minutes clean up the old fashioned way.

The alternative to Love Bugs are mosquitoes.

i soak them with the hose first. then a bucket of soapy water and a 3m Scotch-Brite no scratch blue sponge. hasn't scratched the paint on any car so far. works on the windshield as well. always test in an inconspicuous spot first!!!

How we hate to see May & Sept. after a mild winter! If you don't clean the dead love bugs off every day, paint erodes in little spots on front of your vehicles. Some still use PAM spray as was once recommended, but now found to damage paint worse than the love bugs. We started last fall using the Mr.Clean erasers with the scrubber on one side. That gives the extra touch sometimes needed but the white side usually does it. These are good for 1-2 uses and store brands are much cheaper. Last ones I got were at Target's brand. I stock up when they're on sale! They make it easier than elbow grease & soapy water!

I've been told Mr Clean Eraser works well too! (Overhead 2 ladies at the gym talking about it!)

Good timing with Love Bugs due to hit in May.
