There should be an explanation of how and when 30 Day Rank is calculated. Specifically, when does a person's 30 Day Rank change from "0"? Do they have to have more than 30 consecutive days? Do they have to be a "Top 30 Day Leader"? (This would be redundant since their rank is already on that list). Is the feature not implemented?
Since "Points in Last 30 Days" is listed, why not rank?

It also depends on the time of day you post. If during the week you post on the way to work and are done by 9am but on the weekend you sleep in and don't get around to it until 2pm, that will affect your placement on the list.

Right now, since I posted on Sunday after 2pm, in figuring my 30 day rank, it looks like I actually posted 31 days worth of points. Once that time passes, it'll update and my rank will move down the list.

I definitely do not get the 30 day rank. But I like what one man posted on another topic, save up all the points and buy the ticket in one fell swoop.

I too am unclear about 30 day rank, unless it doesn't start until one has been on 30 consecutive days. I tend to only report prices during the work week, so I have yet to make a 30 day rank. I enjoy the points and the awards, even though they don't mean much, and the chance to win a gas card..This site appeals to Obsessive compulsive tendencies in me.

Your 30 day rank will change every day, or more often, based upon whether or not you accumulate points, and whether or not everyone ahead of you on the list accumulates points. Each time someone above you reports less than you, you will move up the list a few notches.

The 30 day rank is updated at the top of each hour.

Well Dave, Earlier today, my 30 day rank was 1,218. After that at 7:05 AM my 30 day rank was 397. Right now, my 30 day rank is 956. So it is constantly moving and really means nothing.

The 30 day rank is updated - I think - hourly throughout the day.

I don't think so. I just reached a 30 day total 21,745 which should put me on the top 10000 list and show a 30 day rank. This did not happed, so "constantly moving" seems incorrect.
Is the 30 Day Rank updated once a day at 6am like the overall rank?

Why? See "real-time" gas price

"There is no need to update any price if the price has not changed, yet prices are updated constantly with the same price -- why? Its about playing the game. And thats about points and rank. Thats what makes it fun."

Wrong. Prices roll off after 24-48-36-60 hours depending on the site and day. Updating them every time you see them helps to keep them on the board and also helps those looking for the most current price. If I'm looking for gas I tend to look for the most recent updated prices versus the ones 10 hours and older.

The 30 day rank means virtually nothing since it is constantly moving. You could be at 2,488 at 7AM and at 11AM you could be at 100 and a 7PM you could be at 8,000.

Eliminating points and icons would extremely reduce the number of hits, which in turn would reduce the number of ads and income. The owners of this site are making money from these ads. Why deny the obvious. There is no need to update any price if the price has not changed, yet prices are updated constantly with the same price -- why? Its about playing the game. And thats about points and rank. Thats what makes it fun.
I have "fun" seeing my rank slowly improve, and saw an inconsistancy between the Overall Rank and 30 Day Rank calculations. I think this should be changed. Its a simple request so those NOT in the top 10000 can have a little more fun.

I've never been about the points even when I started. As far as I'm concerned, GB could eliminate the points & the car icons & the gas card give away. I would stay. For me it's always been about helping others by posting accurate gas prices. Everything else is a by-product.

And what does this have to do with your OP dave?

If this were a case of someone arguing "we should get more points", then there might be some justification in saying that it's not about points. But it's just a request for having the 30-day score and 30-day rank match up consistently. I side with davegood on this one -- it might be considered relatively unimportant, but it's a valid request.

OK, do you want me to start a new account and start over/ who cares, it is no big deal. Joining this site and starting at the bottom of the list when I joined was no big deal at the time. But it must mean something to you dave good or you would not have changed the subject to the topic you started into what it has evolved into. Do you know that you, yes you, could be over the 1,000,000 point mark if you posted every day? I took a year off and look at were I am at.

Let those with millions of points who cry "Why does there have to be an award for helping others..." go back to zero points by using a different email. You know you won't.
Part of the "fun" of the site is to gain points and rank. Support those who have a life apart from this site by providing a little more motivation at the lower levels. 30 Day Rank should be for everyone who has an Overall Rank. Its just poor programming on the developers' part.

Why can't the reason be because you want to help others? Why does there have to be something in it for you?

While the primary purpose of GB is to provide gas price info, motivation techniques are employed to achieve this end. Collecting points, changing icons, and ranking all motivate contributors to sign on often. Advertising revenue may well be based on how many users visit the site daily.
It is fun to see my rank improve with daily contributions to the site. However, there is no need to visit the site daily when the game isn't fun. For many of us, we are updating stations very soon after someone else has posted a price, so why bother? I, personally, will never get 90 days in a row because I travel. So I can't strive toward the wavy lines. Having a 30 Day Rank operating in the same way as the Overall Rank does (not just limited to the highest 10000) was a source of motivation for me. Now there is no fun, just a chore.

While it is true that there is no purpose to it, like many other things GB, some of it is just for fun.

There is no relationship, directly, between overall rank and 30-day rank. Your overall rank is just that, where you are compared to everyone else in the history of GB. The 30-day rank is a rolling number. AFAICT, it keeps calculating your last 30 days from that particular day's date.

You most certainly do not have to be in the top 10,000 overall, in order to get into the 30-day ranking, but you do have to be within the top 10,000--over the last thirty days--in order to be in the 30-day ranking. In other words, if you signed up tomorrow, and posted five prices every day, you would probably be within the 30-day ranking by the middle of the second month. Then it just keeps going from there.

Scoutmaster:FAQ #29 does not explain how to change your 30 day rank from 0.
Scrapheap: If you are correct, that exposed an inconsistancy. You don't have to be in the top 10,000 to have an Overall Rank, so why should you have to be in the top 10,000 to get a 30 Day Rank? The policy should be changed.
Also, why can't you respond to a specific Replies, only to the original post?

I'm pretty sure you have to be in the top 10,000 to have the rank changed from 0.
