I agree Canadiens that the shortened season helped them to attain a division championship. But realistically, they were far from Stanley Cup Championship caliber. It's funny, but some teams would put up a Division Championship banner, but it would have to be 50 feet long for Montreal fans to notice.

Sounds like some optimism for the Habs from some here and yet as a die hard Habs fan I have to disagree.
I predicted that the Habs would struggle to make the playoffs and not do well in the playoffs. Well I was right about the playoffs and although I was pleasantly surprised by the regular season performance, lets look at this realistically.
This was a very shortened season and a lot of surprises happened. If a full season would have been played I'm sure my prediction would have held true and the Habs would have struggled to make the playoffs.
They are too small and not tough enough and in a full season that alone would have caught up to them.
Contrary to what others may think, next year will be a worse year for the Habs if they don't address these two elements as well as getting a goal scorer and a big body in front of the opposition's net.
Ottawa is a very good team and the Habs could have easily won a game or two with a few breaks and less injuries.
Except for one disgraceful game, I am very proud of my boys for what they accomplished and only wish that some issues will be addressed in the off season.

As bad as it may hurt right now the team has reversed it's fortunes this year. Who predicted a division win for this team at the start. The hope of "next year" is the fate for all but 1.

Subban up for the Norris. I put him 3rd behind Letang and Suter.
Although, I can see Gallagher winning the Calder for ROY.

I switched my avatar back to the Habs since they renewed themselves from game 3 and played the way they should play in game 4. They dominated the game tonight except for a few minutes near the end of the 3rd and of course that fairly quick goal by the Sens in OT. Some very lucky bounces for Ottawa combined with some key injuries to the Habs in the 3rd and in OT played a big role in the outcome of this game.
I was not proud to be a Canadien's fan after game three but I am after game four even though they lost.
I only hope they don't become sore losers in game 5 and embarrass themselves. If we're going to bow out, lets do so with grace and pride.
I don't think either team in this series will advance any further in the playoffs (but I hope they do) because of the bumps and bruises that they have accumulated in this series.
One thing for sure, we'll have at least one Canadian team in round two.

So far the Habs are playing the type of hockey French Canadiens are used to seeing, 2-0 Habs after two.

<<<this is very unlike the history of the Montreal Canadiens, >>>
That is true. This organization has been known for it's commitment to excellence and it's class. Sadly that is of a more distant past. The other night, last year and the year before are now also history eh?
After watching how the fans cheered opponents injuries and booed national anthems and how the organization treated their non French speaking coach last year and after watching the game the other night, listening to the leadership after the game... a new history is being made now as well. This team has no real connection to the storied teams of yesteryear other then the name on the jerseys. How they conducted themselves in recent years and the other night is also now sadly part of their history.

Airfresh - like I said, as a Habs fan I was bitterly disappointed in my teams behaviour and I apologize to Ottawa fans and to the National Hockey League.
All the mouthing off after the game by Montreal management was also garbage.
Having said that, this is very unlike the history of the Montreal Canadiens, and this team needs to make Habs fans proud by playing the game correctly and yes, even win the series.

I have to agree with you Canadiens. 3rd period was a horrible display of hockey AND sportsmanship. I know your a Montreal fan but I also have to say from MY vantage point it was the Canadiens who were the worst with their slashing and cross checking and elbows after the score got beyond their ability to come back.
If they were trying to send a message that they are tough and won't be pushed around they also failed miserably. A horrible night for hockey in general.

Ok, its over and I never want to see another hockey game like that and its not because my Habs lost the game and practically every fight but this was ridiculous. If they were both heavy weight teams duking in out that's one thing, but these two teams embarrassed what we have come to know as good hockey fights.
I could ramble on about both teams but since I'm a Habs fan I'll just say that I am totally disgusted with the Canadiens behaviour. At 0-0 and 1-0 and 1-1 and 2-1 it was a pretty good game but after it went 3-1 the game sucked and I should have turned it off but I'm a hockey fan and a Habs fan so I stuck it out.
Who ever wins this series will likely be dead in the waters for the next series because of both teams attempting to kill each other.
The series is only 2-1 so lets get back to hockey please.
And yes even though I'm disappointed in my Habs I can still say:

Price played much better. Maybe he needs to lose a tooth every game (you have about 32 don't you?) so he's got enough to win a Stanley Cup!
About the hit; it was questionable whether he got enough body to get away from a total head shot but you've got to know you're going to seriously hurt somebody in a vulnerable position like that so a suspension is justified in my books and Diaz needs to pay all of the medical bills.
I still think this may be one of the best series in the first round.

Yes unc, a face plant free fall to the ice is not a good thing. Pilon applied a hit to Stevens in the '90's which now causes Kevin to take extra time going thru scans at the airport.

phone interview today for that hit. not dirty, IMO, but stupid. maybe just unlucky. direct, and only contact was the head. and then poor Lars seemed to hit his head on the ice. worst possible scenario. blind, stupid pass set it up, but you can't hit a guy in the head like that any more. Habs should have put them away on the 5 min. but they didn't. going to be a tough series. Price needs to step it up, because Anderson was much better by my eye, such as it is LOL time for mindylou to get the voodoo doll out of storage!

Tougher night for Lars Eller. Taken out of the rink by a stretcher isn't the best way to go. (only by a hearse would be worse). Interesting to see if the Shanahammer comes down on the hulking Gryba.

This is frustrating. The Habs definitely dominated that game but lost, thanks to Price looking shaky again on a couple of goals. I think he needs to see a shrink. If they lose the next game they're done.

Gateboy - don't think this is a jinx - something's not right - goal-tending, yes - but there's more to it than that and I can't put my finger on it although they have far exceeded my expectations at the beginning of the year. They are still too small and not tough enough to go far in the play-offs. Nevertheless -

He is good on the PP and thats where he gets 2/3's of his points. But to me, a solid defenseman is good in BOTH ends of the ice. PK reminds me of Byfuglien, who played forward for a while too. I don't see him being a force against a teams top line.

I basically feel the same way towards Cooke and yes you too see him 90%+ more than I do so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. You should however pay more attention to just about everyone league in the league and in the media except perhaps the bias opinions of Pens fans and Pens media towards PK. He leads the league in power play points and like I said he wouldn't be on the list by most hockey experts for the Norris trophy if he was half as bad as you think he is.
Another pathetic performance by the Habs tonight. My pleasant surprise in their improvement this year is slowly being dissolved but hey, the Bruins aren't looking too good either and I expected more from them this year.

Come on TDice you can't have it both ways. You once told me that people can change and you gave me Cooke as an example. I have confidence in you that you know enough about hockey to see that there is a big difference between PK this year and his antics last year and who knows what the next few years will bring. I'll be the first to admit that Cooke really has changed but then again he could always regress, LOL.

My personal view of PK will never change, but I respect what you and Don Cherry think (even though, I'm sure he hates the visor even more). Doughty performed a great PK impression against Dubinsky last night. PK is lucky that Letang has missed 12 games or we wouldn't even be having a Norris debate.

TDice - although I don't like PK's turtling I have to admit that he is one of the best D in the NHL and his leading the top of the Norris Trophy list indicates that. He's made a big change around this year and I'm willing to give him more time. Don Cherry who hates those who turtle considers PK the best D in the league so that says something.

Third game in a row that Iron Mike had to make mid-game goalie change. Being outscored 18-8 in those 3 games is not a good way to go into the playoffs.
Will PK wear a turtle suit in the next game? Even his teammates have to be embarassed by his antics.
