We explored the Yukon by boat, train, road and plane. The Yukon River boat trip brought us to Fort Selkirk, where we wandered through abandoned historic buildings from the Yukon's earliest permanent settlement.
The train ride brought us through tunnels, over bridges and trestles, to the border between Alaska and Canada. During the two-hour journey, we saw waterfalls, turquoise lakes, snow-streaked mountains and the trail used by prospectors on their way to Klondike gold fields.
The beautiful drive from Whitehorse to Skagway passed postcard-pretty Emerald Lake and Carcross Desert, which was straight out of the Sahara. A friend spotted a black bear lolling along the roadside, his mouth full of dandelions.
The highlight of our trip was a flightseeing tour of Kluane National Park. From the plane, we photographed saw-toothed mountains and glaciers that looked like curving superhighways, connecting the ice fields.

We've driven the Alaska Highway to Alaska, but took a side trip thru Whitehorse, up to Dawson and on to Inuvik, (then the NWT). If you're headed into that part of the world, get yourself a copy of the "Milepost". It's a worthy investment and can be a lifesaver.
Can't wait to do another trip to the north country.

Northern Ontario (Kirkland Lake area), Plan on visiting the Great White (Yukon) sometime within the next year or two. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Looking forward to the trip into Northern B.C. and the Yukon.

Yukon is great, roads are fairly good and land is magnificent, Clean air and you can listen to every bird and animal in the early morning.

Been to Carcross, Whitehorse, Dawson City, above the Arctic Circle to Old Crow in the Yukon.
Alaska's nice, Labrador's ok, but the Yukon Territory is thee most beautiful place on earth!

Have only been up as far as Fort Nelson on the Alaska Highway in BC (Grande Prairie, Alberta) but there sure is a different feeling in the cold white North! It's fantastic scenery!
