I recently purchased a Garmin StreetPilot 7500 for our motorhome we had a chance to use it are our trip over the past three weeks. It was great no more buying maps and fumbling through them just plug in where we want to go and let the navigator do the rest. When I was looking for mine a stumbled across a great website to buy from, its a marine electronics store but they also have all the automotive GPS'. The name was Scuba Steve's Marine Outlet. Great people to deal with, when I called they answered all my questions. My order was delivered overnight for only $16! If your are looking for a GPS Navigator I would definitely check them out their website was www.scubasteve.biz. I'm thinking about getting the XM package but want to do a little more research before I go for the subscription.

I have two. My first is a Garmin 3 plus. I hooked it into my laptop loaded with streets and trips. Had a large screen that showed where we were. Found it useful so as not to get caught somewhere and have to back up. Long combination vehicles are not fun to back up.

Now just have the GPS with the map software. It works well. Still use the 3 plus when out and about in the back country

For the people that have car GPS systems, what is the cost and interval to update them?

I use a 2007 Rand McNally Road Atlas (Wal*Mart, $5.97), AAA Maps and the other travel publications they offer. With those and a 1966 Rand McNally Road Atlas to help follow the old US-highways I have no problem getting where I am going and a lot of fun getting there. Don't want someone that has never driven anywhere trying to tell what roads I should take. Getting there is half the fun. Most people that I know that have and use a GPS use exclusively the Interstate Highway System, seems unnecessary to me..

I purchased the Sony nav-u, NV-U70 GPS in the latter part of 2006, although the unit is very accurate as it should be, and is a great tool, but this particular unit only has a 1gb. hard drive, which means that only half of the north american maps can be installed, these maps have to be deleted in order to install the other half of the maps, a CD is supplied with the unit in order to make the changes, this of course means you need a computer to make the changes, I jumped in too soon on this one.

I'd love to own one. On the other hand, I trust me and Rand-McNally over just about anything else.

I too, used a GPS in my motorhome this year on a cross-country (Yellowstone, via BWCA Minn.) trip. Be wary, especially in rural areas, of using the "shortest route" option. There are times it will take you thru traffic, on dirt roads, or other less desirable roads to save a few hundred yards.

They are a great tool, but you still have to think for yourself and know where you're going. Don't sell those maps yet.

Happy trails.

Thanks for the site...XM is great No more Cr_p to listen to uless you want to Bob Dylan and Tom Petty have shows on channel 40 DeepTraks, Oldtime radio channel & no junk commercials a few for XM type stuff but nothing one can't live with. Back to your GPS does it talk or beep. Every where I gone to looking for a GPS no one knows where I can find these models.
