I love my razr droid. Zero bad things to say about it. Apps are awesome, games...awesome, internet browsing...awesome. My LG would shut off randomly but my razr hasn't had that issue. Alot of phones have a safety feature that shuts them off when they get hot so they don't melt or burn.

I think the problem with Android is that many of the free apps are badly written... and when closed do not free up memory correctly... so you are periodically pulling out the battery... and re-booting to get you lost speed back

When has the Poynt app EVER had accurate prices? GasBuddy is way more accurate! (I drive all over Michigan and have used both extensively, and I put on about 100,000 miles per year, so that's saying something!)

I love my android phone but really not happy that the Poynt app I was using for gas prices seemed to have switched to this crappy . I really hate it!!! If any of you know how I can get the old running app back, please let me know. I miss being able to just hit find Cheapest gas and a whole list of stations pop up with accurate pricing. Now I cant get anything to pop up. Even with signing up with this web site. Grrrr!!!!

::::I found the answer to the 2 year contract issue. Ting.com is all Android:::: That Ting.com looks very interesting. Even beats StraightTalk for prices. The kicker is you have to buy their phones. Unlike ST though, Ting has leading edge phones - but at full retail. ST lets you bring your own phone, not Ting, at least not yet. I was reading through the Ting blog and the constant refrain is "I'd sign up if I could bring my own." I agree, I'd do the same and drop my current carrier.

I am having real battery issues with my Verizon 4G Motorola RAZR 4G LTE phone. The 4G takes so much battery that by the end of the work day the battery dies. We either need bigger batteries or find some way to reduce the battery drain.

Hope this thread isn't too long dead.
I found the answer to the 2 year contract issue. Ting.com is all Android.
BUY the phone, you pay more over the life of the contract for a subsidized phone. I paid $155 for the cheapest they had ((LG Optimus S)They're on the Sprint network). I don't think they let you supply your own handset. They don't do contracts. You declare your expected usage, but there are no increased costs for overages. The rate stays the same, AND they give you a refund for unused minutes. Not sure if that applies to data and texts. My base rate dropped to $33 compared to $70 with Sprint. [Caveat: All minutes are equal. No free nights and weekends]. You can save by using WiFi, though. Mine switches automatically when I pull in the parking lot.

I was "iffy" about my android when I first got it, I previously had a blackberry and going from a phone that had a keyboard to a phone that is all touch was a little bit of an adjustment for me. However, the apps, screen and overall function of the phone is wonderful compared to the blackberry. After a couple of months I experienced it shutting itself off, then turning back on randomlly, and at the most inconvenient times. Overall, I like my droid, I would have preferd to get the one that has the keyboard, but we can't win all the time!

The only thing with buying a used phone is lately the asking prices have been $300 to $400 for many models in mint condition. Sheesh. That is triple what I'm willing to spend.

@Plastic My responses to the OP are the >> entries. I've only had 2- 2 year contracts in my 20 years of cell phone ownership. 1 was for the original iPhone, the other the original Droid. I've always bought 'used' much like Hemond, I can wait a couple months for the phone ho's to buy the next best and I take their 'crumbs' for 50-75% less then new 2 year contract prices w/o the contract.

Another thing you can do if locked into a contract is buy a phone in the secondary market. I do this all the time. Although not the absolute latest phone that just got released yesterday, I always get something newer than my current model. That makes it newer and far more advanced to me, and thats all that matters. I've currently got an LG phone with Android Gingerbread. I paid $75 from someone on the phone message boards. But being a fickle phone slut, I'm never satisfied and after 6 months am keeping an eye out on the boards for any of several models. I may pay as much as $125 this time though, certainly no more. Something with Honeycomb this time. People on the phone boards baby their phones because they want to resell them in 2 months, as soon as the latest and greatest gets released. Fine with me , let them pay full price. I'll gladly buy their gently used device

Flahusky, you don't have to be stuck to the two year plan. Buy a phone, on the two-year plan (or not) then in 6 to 9 months when something better comes along, sell it and buy the new phone outright. Do the same in another 6 to 9 months. Meanwhile your two year contract clock is still ticking and you can get a new phone for cheap and sell it for more when the time comes. Don't wait too long to unload a phone. Hemond could probably tell you more about that since I've pretty much just settled down with a great phone.
For the record, my "great" phone is the subject of complaints for many others. For some reason, it likes me and is performing well. I think I'll keep it.

Not trying to troll here, but i have come to genuinely detest my Android phone. It was awesome for about 6 months, then several new phones came out and mine was obsolete. >> Welcome to the world of consumer electronics...
My last system update was like a lead weight that slowed the phone to a crawl. Now they aren't even pushing updates for my phone. >> You manufacture may not update the phone anymore BUT others may, Root/RoM is available for almost any Android device on the market. RoMs kept my 2 y.o. Original Droid rockin' well into the 5th best new phone rounds.
It's wonderful if you're able to just buy a new phone every 9 months, but when you get suckered into a two-year contract, you're stuck with an outdated phone for the last 2/3 of that time. Lame. >> You said it, 'SUCKER' is what you are for signing that 2 year contract. Either save up and buy the phone outright or bend over and take the contract. IF you take the contract bank $35 a month so you can buy it out when the 'Next best thing' comes on the market in 10 months.
As Hemond mentioned invest in a quality case. Yeah they may 'hide' the beauty of the phone BUT that beauty of a phone is uglier then sin when its shattered because you dropped it.

I've noticed more cracked screens with iPhones really- even if they hadn't been dropped.
As for the rest of it- Hemond took care of that.

:::: the first fall and done now you have a cracked screen. So for the next 2 yrs of your contract you are starring at a cracked screen.::: Nothing to do with Android. Thats a consequence of having a glass phone. I understand that Gorilla Glass goes along way to stopping breakage when dropped. Pick a model that uses that glass. Also a screen is fairly easy and cheap to repair for someone mildly techie. You can buy just the glass off ebay for maybe $25 and find extremely detailed repair instructions on Youtube. You can also buy a parts phone off ebay and swap out the glass.

battery drains fast on android phones. apps always running in the back ground. but i do love my epic phone.
think the cell companies should allow us to get a new phone every year. they make there money off our plans not the phones. as someone has said phone becomes obsolete within 6/9 months.

If the instructions are clear on the site, then it should be a quick and painless process, and its reversable...just depends on the phone.
If you think you need a Guide to help you, register on the forums and ask questions, one of them would be more than happy to reply *And would give me a referral, same username there as here XD*
I took a peek and looks like its been very detailed, if your phone's already updated to the latest Android, then it shouldn't be a problem, that's one thing people end up screwing up is that they aren't running the latest OS on it that was released by the Manufacturer or the Provider. Make sure you set up time, and thoroughly read and understand the post. The guide is found in the LG Ally section under FAQ.

@ilnda233: MetroPCS and Boost Mobile and heck, even Virgin Mobile have great plans that are no contract and will definably not 'bust your budget'.
danin's advice is the best. Rooting your phone will remove limitations you previously had on your device. Still not satisfied? Go the extra mile, customize it, install a Custom Rom! Here's where iPhone gets beat, you can change nearly everything inside your phone. Jail-breaking is the same as Rooting but being able to install all kinds of apps, and going beyond the limits preset, will get you a better experience.
Android Forums Visit here, you'll find information about your phone and see ways, if any are available, on what can be done. You shouldn't worry about it being too 'hard' or irreversible, Rooting can easily be undone, depending on the phone, so you don't need to worry about 'voiding' that warranty, and there are guides specific to the phone as well as people to help you out. Don't rage at the droid phone just yet if you haven't tried tampering with it, some phones will fail, due to their innards (Hardware), but never from the Android system itself.

donk18, I'm surprised that your battery is gone. I thought they were supposed to last about 2 years. Amazon has some good prices on replacements - some with extended life are not that expensive. On a general note, and I know it isn't for everyone, but if you want to get the most out of your Android, you have to root it. I've only had mine for 5 months and haven't done it - yet. But, if you read some of the things online about it, it sounds like it is the closest thing to heaven in the cell phone world. Imagine being able to fully charge your battery; being able to show your cellphone pictures on your HDTV, being able to play a movie from your phone on your TV; being able to tether your laptop for a few minutes a year without paying $30 per month. Imagine having a custom home screen with only the apps YOU want to use and being able to free up memory by deleting the NASCAR app that you will never use.
Imagine having a major software glitch fixed within days, instead of hoping, hoping, hoping that your cell phone provider will push out a fix for your favorite bug "sometime within the next year".
I'd hate to be stuck with an outdated phone for the last 2/3 of my contract. Android is great because it is open source. If your carrier isn't being open about it, maybe it is time to take matters into your own hands.
There is a better, even magical, world out there.

I know what you mean. I have about 5 months left on my 2 year phone and I can't have half the things on it now. No memory, slow processor, the battery is garbage now too. A decent upgrade with a good buy back/trade up option after 6 months would be sweet.
But dream as we all may.

Saying that ur cell is outdated is like saying that ur car is outdated. As long as it still works, it shouldn't matter that something newer has come out. Don't phones come with at least 1-year warranties? If you're having all of the trouble that you're having because of ur provider's own updates, perhaps you can get it replaced. I'm guessing that maybe ur phone is slow bc u have too many apps, or maybe u just downloaded one malicious app that's giving u some trouble.
linda233, I'm w u on the cheap part. If I didn't have a car, I wouldn't have any type of phone. But, I just have a cell phone for driving emergencies, and since I have a cell, I don't have home phone service.

I had some big issues when I first got my Android. After about 4 months and resetting it to factory a handful of times, it's been working quite well for me recently (knock on wood) and have had no problems with it now.

I know, I know just call me old-school, but I do not have a cell phone. I lived without one for many years and I see no need to pay the outrages charges that come with a cell phone. I have a home phone with a landline and so far I get enough phone calls on that one. (psst, besides I am cheap)

The Want turns into Needs after a phone becomes horribly slow and unresponsive due to updates from all sources.
One method of fixing that is pushing your hardware to its limit, get the most out of your buck. You can do that by removing up applications you will never use and then some, like Live Wallpapers when you really won't ever use them. Applications like Metro and such that you won't ever touch in your life.
Overclocking the hardware if at all possible is another one. Installing a custom ROM for the Android is another option as well.
Getting the most out of your painful buck is the only way to beat that. Had I never rooted and booted my phone, I'd have thrown it at the wall.
