I purchased a 2009 MB 320 Bluetec (diesel) in August and love it. If you want to investigate fuel consumption and do comparisons to other CArs I suggest you look at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ as I found this site very helpful. This site will also tell you when diesels will be available in CA and the other 4 states with restrictions. Regardless of restrictions you CAn bring any CAr into CA (and I think the other states) if they have 7,500 miles on them.

And I love my new CAr - my old CAr was a 1990 MB 190E 2.6 - you can't imagine the difference.

The smaller version of the M Class makes it to the U.S. lineup in fall 2008! The B class has been availble in Canada for a couple of years. Also, a new S class diesel is on the way! The last S class diesel was the 140 series, the 350 SDL in the mid-1990's.

I have a MB S350 TD 1996 and love it. Get 9L/100km combine but I drive at 160kmh on highways.

Would love to buy a new MB diesel but they can't sell them in New York State yet. Can't understand what's holding it up

Can't wait until MB diesels are available in California again. I had a 220D and later a 300D and loved them both. Of course the cost equation is different now--back then diesel fuel was cheaper than regular gasoline. I'd like the mileage to pay for the cost override, and will have to wait and see.

I think I'd still go with the E-class with a CDI. Great milage and great riding car to boot.

I've always been enamored by the Merc diesels. If I had enough money, I'd snap one up tomorrow.

These vehicles use the carbon filter to remove carbon particles from the exhaust. This is not the bluetech technology that will come later. The carbon filter captures the particles and burns them up as they reach a saturation level. These new engines are quiet, responsive, and emit no visible balck smoke like the old diesel engines.
