Easiest, safest diet....No white flour, no simple sugars. It is so easy you don't have to count calories, or carbs. Watch the pounds disappear........

Try the "Quarter Plate" - 1/4 plate for protein, 1/4 plate for carbohydrate, 1/2 (or 2/4) of plate for vegetables.

Try using smaller plates. Or, have separate courses dressed up like in restaurants - go for the "white space" (as we used to say doing layouts, etc.)

The See Food diet is the best. Just stop eating when you are satisfied and not when you're full, eat a balanced diet, don't eat between meals very often, and exercise regularly.

the OP basically advocates watching the Glycemic Index of your food intake.
In the end, it's ins versus outs. And the worst news, if you ONLY change the ins, you are not going to lose weight. (As you cut back on your intake, your body's metabolism slows down to MAINTAIN the weight that you dont want.) Theoretically, if you do not change your intake, but do in fact increase our output, you can lose weight. That's tough too.

The hardest part is CONSISTENCY, which is really what is crucial. (the body is like a pendulum. If you dont continue to apply "force/pressure" in one direction, it will seek the balance point, which is where you are. Any sudden deviations from that balance point, and you have the massive reactive forces to fight against. Slow, minimal changes may be 'easier' - as long as you are consistent.

I love Wansink's recognition of the 200 daily decisions about eating. No wonder we have so much difficulty.

I can't get rid of red meats - my iron level dips down too much and I'm weak. Anyone know of a good vitamin with some extra iron? I'm almost out of my prenatal vitamins that kept me going. Too bad I decided to not have more kids and I can't convince the doctor to give me more!

I lost nearly 140 lbs, have kept it off for 8 years now. My secret, simple consume fewer calories than you burn and the fat goes away. I exercise 30 to 60 minutes every day, drink NO alcohol, and watch every calorie I eat. You have to get self control. It has been far harder keeping this control over my desire to eat than it was to just lose weight

Diet is such a sad word. I started seeing a Naturopathic Dr. in June and she gave me some "guidelines" to eating healthy. No flour, sugar, caffeine, soda (especially diet), Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day, no red meat, alcohol and eat LOTS of veggies and natural foods (unprocessed). OK sounds strict but I did cut out the caffeine 100% and have learned to love water. Most of the other stuff I do most of the time. My blood pressure has Dropped and in 3 months have lost 48 lbs. The trick is that I am not on a diet. I am learning to eat better. If I want a piece of cake I will have it, but a smaller piece than before. I have tried fad diets in the past and they do not work. You have to take responsibility for what you eat but don't feel bad if you give yourself permission to indulge.

I didn't start losing until I exercised twice a day AND drank water for almost every beverage occasion. Hope that helps.

I spent more than 6 months on virtually a no bad fat eating plan. No fast food or restaurants for 3.5 months straight. I ate 3 apples a day for 20 days. Lots of Low fat milk and virtually no meat (1 time about every 10 days), of course, even though I'm not a vegetarian. I ate nuts or salmon for protein. Lost of recommended Vitamins.

I continue to do most of the above but have eaten a few fast foods (grilled) and a few of the better health choices at restaurants.

I moved from outdoor walking to indoor workouts at a club at "fat burning" intensity for my age. I've gained muscle, lost 1% of body fat and only a mere 8 pounds max in scale weight. I realize muscle weighs more than fat.... but isn't this ridiculous.

Yes, the clothes fit a bit better & I can tell alittle but I'm not even down 1 size.

I maintained a low to mid good range weight until I turned 41 after 2 pregnancies. I gained weight on purpose on 1 pregnancy to help the babies.

Does anyone know how to break this & lose 10 lbs more? ridiculous!

LOL - really?! There is something without chocolate in this world? I keep trying to find things to take to work for snacking and it all has sugar or corn syrup (same thing) or chocolate. Anyone have ideas?

I somewhat agree with the original poster, but I wouldn't call it a diet. I've cut out sodas and most refined sugars from my diet. I went from 218 to 195 in six months without any other changes. Once I got past the caffine withdrawal it didn't seem like a diet at all. I missed nothing.

I found my information for THE HIGH FIBER DIET in Reader's Digest a few years back. Perhaps, maybe four years ago. But it did a great job combined with a workout routine. I lost (40) pounds in (6) weeks and the only reason I put it back on was because of a second child. But I just started it again so I am looking forward to dropping the weight!!! Remember to eat your calories, not drink them!!!!

If anyone wants a more simple way to view this info, send me an email to tlcmlsj@netscape.net. Toodles!!!

I have lost over 55 lbs in 4 months by simply counting calories and leaving off the sugar/fat foods. If you do that, all of the other things (carbs, protein, etc.) fall into place. I have gone from a size 22W to size 14 in 4 months without exercising and I haven't felt this great in years.

Calories are done by your current weight. Three Interesting Facts About Eating a Diet High in Fiber:

For each Gram of Fiber you lose 7 calories
A diet high in fiber reduces your cholesterol
A fiber diet with eight glasses of water a day also decreases your body fat and fat intake

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
Enclosed you will find a Fiber Chart. You are to use this chart to aid in developing your own diet intake to fit you needs. It is proven that a diet high in fiber wastes away calories daily.

Key Points:
1. Keep to the protein meats that are lean in fat
2. You are allowed red meat once a week. Remember chicken and lean fish are highly recommended for this diet.
3. It is important that you re-calculate your calorie intake every three to five pounds to continue to lose weight actively.
4. You have to eat to lose weight. Eating help your body metabolize better.
5. Take a daily vitamin supplement every day.
6. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day.
7. When possible exercise three to four times a week to help your body metabolism to increase.
8. It is recommended that you take in a minimum of 35 g grams of fibers a day.
9. Still hunger away you have taken in your maximum amount of calories? Each more fruit and veggies. This will contribute to your fiber intakes, help you feel more full and you won’t fell guilty.
10. Good luck!!

To Calculate your daily calorie intake:
Take your current body weight and multiply it by 10.
If you are inactive, take this number and multiply it by 30%
If you are semi-active, multiply it by 40%
And if you are very active, multiply this number by 50%.
Take the first number and second number and add them together.
This is the amount of calories you should take in daily to maintain your current weight. To lose weight, subtract 500 for you new daily intake.

Example:
A person who weighs 130 who wishes to lose weight and in very active should take in the following calories to lose weight:

130 x 10= 1300 calories
1300 x .50= 650 additional calories
1300 + 650= 1950 amount of calories to maintain current
weight
1950 – 500= 1450 daily intake to lose weight successfully
If you are a heavy condiment user, watch the fat intake and calories of each condiment and add this into your daily-calculated amount of calories.
