They should be punished harder financially, but they will get away with it, just a few billions in fines and they make ten times that in a year.

I've mused about buying some of it since it is got a lower P/E than its peers, a nice dividend, and possible upside since it will gain if the whole industry gains. Of course, it has the stinky cloud of all of the lawsuits weighing it down, too. But, I doubt it will file for bankruptcy.

It appears to survive well with higher prices, necessary to pay legal expenses, keep its shareholders happy, and make profit.

Maybe after they get the well plugged they can change to the relatively untainted Amoco brand name. Amoco didn't have explosions every few months at the Texas City Refinery, unlike BP.
