I think it would hurt more than it would help. People need some of their services.

Probably would not hurt to do without a whole lot of the things they do so badly. If I ran my business like the government runs its business I would have been out of business before I even got started. I have worked on government contracts before and WOW what a pile of paperwork that makes the job cost 2 to 3 times a normal job with no better quality. They also use scare tactics to make you think everything just stops, which is a lie. The government has a constant flow of monies coming in from payroll withholdings on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis. Plenty to keep things going for some time, just no extras. What would you do if your credit line was temporarily interrupted.....work around it!!!

It's probably the only way to stop some spending. Govt needs 30% across the board cuts and layoffs. That sector is the only one that's expanding.

I am a federal employee. Obviously things did not close down earlier this month but we do expect things to get worse by October. Everyone I work with expects a shutdown before this year ends.
