Who to blame for the price at the pump? Tough to say

Politifact -- $3.84 a gallon.

Three-eighty-FOUR! For one lousy gallon, one milk jug’s worth of gasoline.

The cost of a fill-up? Don’t even get us started.

Whose fault is it?

Keystone. China. Obama. PolitiFact has heard it all. Since the beginning of this year, we’ve checked more than a dozen statements and ads about gas prices. In most every case, we’ve found politicians oversimplifying their attacks, or just plain getting the facts wrong.

Did you hear the one about the single-day gas protest in 1997 that forced prices down overnight?

Well, it never happened.

In reality, the price of gas is determined by a litany of complex and shifting factors (Brent derivatives, anyone?), few of which you’ll hear mentioned in :30-second political ads.

Seems Aviator Rob has taken a note out of the HOs playbook ... lecture folks and divide them without contributing anything meaningful. Through deflection and avoiding responsibility, try to "stay above the fray". Wonder if he learned that in "flight school" or through experience. One would think that with a "bird's eye view" the answers would be apparent and that they would be shared.

About the article, this is a purely political piece in nature at without any attempt to hide. The reason, the HO is desperate as we approach the election and Politico.com is in the tank for the HO. And as much as I don't care what Aviator Rob thinks about my comments, I really don't care about his thoughts either.

To everyone out there posting up on this board. I really don't care what opinions you have, as long as they are INFORMED opinions. Enough with the one sentence or even worse, one word comments. Go out there and educate yourselves and not from just one source. If you watch Fox News then you better watch MSNBC, too. Too many people here are talking past each other and not talking WITH each other.

WE have to be the solution.

It's a big circle of a dozen guys.

From government to oil companies to IRS to retailers to refiners to name a few.

When asked who to blame, each guy points to the right.

I blame environmentalists and Democrats, probably a little redundant. Environmentalists don't like any energy production and the Obama administration has spent an obscene amount of money that has run up the government debt. This has devalued the dollar and made energy even more expensive.

Need to stop printing money, weak dollar higher oil prices...
Need to control Wall St. on oil trades...
Need to open all oil areas for drilling...
Need to talk about 100 year oil supply, and using it...

If the WH did all these things oil and gas prices would drop...

Go find a speculator and tack his hide up to the nearest barn wall. If we catch enough of them, gas prices will fall dramatically. Tacking a few republican politicians up on the barn wall with the speculators that you catch will hasten the fall of gas prices.

Interesting that gas is up this high when we have a president in office that has specifically said he didn't see anything wrong with gas being $ 4 or $ 5 a gallon.

The Republican Nixon. Had he and Kissinger not opened up China the increased demand from that large, growing country would not impact the price of oil today.

Most industry watchers say that speculators add $20-40/per barrel to the cost of oil. Make the speculators take delivery of 10% of what they buy contracts on and watch what happens to the price.
