One and Done: Study says most hybrid drivers don't buy another

autobloggreen by Sebastian Blanco -- How much do hybrid drivers really, truly like their cars? According to R.L. Polk, not all that much – at least not in 2011.

Polk has released a new hybrid loyalty analysis that concludes that only 35 percent of people who bought a hybrid bought another one last year. The data comes from car purchases made in 2011, and Polk found that Toyota Prius drivers are the most loyal, both to the gas-electric technology and to Toyota itself. Sixty percent of Toyota hybrid owners bought another vehicle from the automaker, even if it wasn't a hybrid. A recent J.D. Power Customer Retention Study found that the average brand loyalty was 49 percent, but that doesn't take powertrains into account.

According to Polk, forty-one percent of Toyota hybrid drivers choose to buy another hybrid (from any bra

Interesting! Brand loyalty, I knew about; hybrid loyalty is probably a new statistic, given the cars' recent introduction.

Sticker Shock and nothing more.
Nothing like wasting $10,000 extra on something that saves a 3 or 4 dollars a day.
How many days is that folks? 8 perhaps 10 years worth of days is the correct answer.

What's the big deal about hybrids? It's just a car that uses gas like all the others but it collects energy when you slow and puts it back into forward motion when you accelerate. Porsche is winning in GT3 on the racetrack with one because it skips a fuel pitstop. The only problem I see is that the fast and sexy ones haven't hit the lots yet. When the new Acura NSX comes out, I'm lining up right behind Leno for mine.

Yeah, baby!

You pay a lot of extra money for a hybrid. Get no return on your investment. It runs like a sick dog. It has no acceleration. What did these people actually think? I want another useless car?

Been a loyal 'Toyota' and Honda owner since 1982 and am very pleased with the performance of both cars. No need to have a hybrid, keep the ones you have maintained properly and enjoy.

New cars are too expensive. Also, since most of my miles are highway miles; hybrids wouldn't ever pay for themselves. I'd be much more interested in a highly efficient modern diesel powered car. But I probably won't be purchasing another vehicle for another 5 years. I try to get over 250K miles on my vehicles before replacing them.

I like diesel cars better for the future then gas hybrid I think that a diesel hybrid will be much better, I red once that vw was supposed to offer diesel hybrid that gets almost 70 mpg on the hwy and of course looks a lot better then vw or honda hybrids.

The Big Oil Cartel have the world wide economies in total turmoil!! Ever sense the advent of the "computer age" all stability in every modern economic society has evaporated!! ---- Dictatorships have been over throne, markets have been made unable to keep a stable economic climate possible throughout the entire world !! Finger pointing and the blame game has become the norm!! Until we get control of the fuel that runs our industries, we will continue to flounder!!----------The USA has enough natural resources to serve our needs ,but Big Oil manipulates the market so that they are in control of all aspects of our economic wellbeing!!----------------------Our only hope is that governments will realize that they must take control back from the petroleum industries!! All countries must Nationalize the oil industry for the protection of their countries economy!!

They left out how many hybrid drivers have replaced their vehicle yet. We have a numerator without a denominator, or something like that.

Hybrids are a temporary solution, and the focus on alternate fuel sources, (mainly hydrogen fuel cells) and natural gas which is plentiful can power our cars, thus greatly reducing our dependency on foreign oil!

I don't believe one and done is an accurate perception. Give it time, don't rush to judgement.
