U.S. Summer Gasoline Demand Expected to Dip to 11-Year Low

C-Store News -- WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Despite it being prime vacation season, U.S. demand for gasoline is expected to hit its lowest level in 11 years, reported theĀ U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). High pump prices and the increased use of more efficient vehicles have both encouraged reduced fuel consumption.

Gasoline consumption is expected to average nearly 8.8 million barrels per day (bpd) from April to September, the lowest since 2001 and approximately 6.4 percent less than the record high of 9.4 million bpd in 2007, according to the EIA's April Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO). The forecast could still change with the release of the next STEO on May 8, reported the EIA.

Fuel prices, which are expected to be 24 cents higher per gallon than last summer on average, will likely reduce some h

Between better mileage vehicles and people cutting back on driving, I'd be surprised if the miles driven had not dropped.

When Bush was in office we paid over $4 a gallon. I said, a long time ago that we would be using less gasoline as we got electric cars and better mileage. Analyst were saying demand in the USA would be more.
In 2008 in July gas prices started dropping because of congressional hearings and closing an Enron loophole. Want to get gasoline prices down? Get after your do nothing congress to enforce the law on the CFTC to do its job by limiting speculation and stop helping Wall Street! Or just sit there and blame your President.

has anyone noticed the small amount of traffic on the roads between 9am and 3pm?? if you have to go somewhere, it is a great time to be alone on the roads. the price of gas is still killing the economy.

I don't trust the current government (both parties are to blame). I feel that the economy may have bottomed out but I have yet to see any significant signs of recovery. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi shoulder much of the blame.

Only the person looking back in the mirror every morning will determine how much they choose to spend on fuel.Change your habits and save big bucks, keep tooling around in large inefficient vehicles and keep whining.

Of course prices won't dip. They're running a monopoly of a limited finite natural resource. There is NO relationship between demand and supply. Stop treating it like an open market economy! It is not. Think OPEC.

Prices will be up higher anyway.

Being single, I gotta find a low maintenance babe. I'm in my 50's and need to exercise. She's probably got a fat ass as well. We'll dust off our bikes, go for miles and skronk in the woods somewhere near town. Maybe we'll pass out in the tall grass for a few hours before we have the energy to get home.

That would be so nice. Sometimes we have to revert to our teenage years when we had no money.

Given the price of a gallon, is it any surprise that demand is expected to be down. I would be more surprised if demand were up.
