Keystone. China. Obama. PolitiFact has heard it all. Since the beginning of this year, we’ve checked more than a dozen statements and ads about gas prices. In most every case, we’ve found politicians oversimplifying their attacks, or just plain getting the facts wrong.

Did you hear the one about the single-day gas protest in 1997 that forced prices down overnight?

Well, it never happened.

In reality, the price of gas is determined by a litany of complex and shifting factors (Brent derivatives, anyone?), few of which you’ll hear mentioned in :30-second political ads.

What he's done has hurt the price of gas and I can't think of a single thing he's done thats helped. In Alabama, where I'm from, people are saying Obama is going to lower gas prices prior to the election to help him get re-elected. Don't know if that possible but prices are starting to drop a little.

However the complicated way in which prices are "manipulated" or set is what keeps consumers from being effective in challenging or changing things.

And by not allowing more drilling on Federal lands and than turn around and push the Saudias to drill more how can you state that drilling won't help?
