KY, OH weigh options for Ohio River Bridge project

GasBuddy Blog -- Kentucky and Ohio are weighing their options for a new Ohio River bridge between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. A new report
Options Analysis: Brent Spence Bridge Corridor now identifies two options Kentucky and Ohio could consider as the states continue their work to hammer out a funding plan for building the new bridge.

The options analysis examined four procurement methods in terms of cost factors, schedule benefits and market conditions, among others. It concluded that two delivery models represented the most attractive potential options for ODOT, KYTC and motorists:
•Design-Build – An approach whereby the states finance the project through a possible combination of federal, state, federal loan and bond funding...

It seems some in Washington believe Portland gangs are better ... and use mass transit to do their "drive-bys" (grin)...

Perhaps Oregon should build their side and stop it at the state boundary line over the river.........then put a sign that Washington is responsible for the rest of the crossing.....or lack of it.

How dare Portland have mass transit and want to incorporate Vancouver into the transit plan.... after all, nobody from Washington works in the Beaver State, right???? (grin)

Gee... it seems some in Washington thinks only Oregon has gangs...... and that gangs may not use cars to cross the bridge.....

Tomok is partially right about the Vancouver - Portland I-5 bridge replacement. We need the current bridge replaced before we get a large earthquake. However, Vancouver does not need nor do we want Portland's light rail extended into our downtown nor do we want Portland's gang warfare easily crossing the river so they can shoot up our city.

As far as tolls go, the money has to come from somewhere. Having the users help pay for it makes sense, but we also have to extend the tolls to the I-205 bridge across the Columbia River. This would result in lower tolls for each trip, and may help to pay off the project sooner. Also, it would stop drivers from switching from I-5 to I-205 to beat the toll.

As far as tolls never being removed, most people do not remember that the I-5 bridges had tolls in the 1950's and 1960's. So did the Longview-Rainier Bridge and the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Tolls were removed from all of the bridges at the same time (late 1960's)

KY, OH weigh options for Ohio River Bridge project. This project sounds very familiar but there is much better corporation between Ohio and Kentucky than there is between Oregon and Washington.
A similar bridge design and funding was discussed for the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. Th current I5 bridge is too narrow and cannot handle today's traffic adequately. They want to build another bridge, next to the old one, to handle the increased traffic – one North, one South. Currently, there is no agreement how it is to be funded. Oregon approved spending $450 million for the bridge but Washington's spending bill died. Total cost of the bridge, improvements, and interchanges would be $2.7 Billion. Oregon has approved building a new bridge and interchanges on the Oregon side funded from tolls, the federal government, and the State of Oregon. The bridge project seems to be in limbo without any further advancements. Meanwhile, the traffic is congested going South in the morning and congested going North in the evening. There will be No improvements for bridge traffic anytime soon. But, if you build it they will come.....
Washington (and Vancouver) also declined TriMet (Portland local bus and light rail system) from crossing the same bridge providing light rail from Vancouver to Portland. Vancouver said the light rail cost too much, which it probably does. Ctran (bus service from Vancouver) currently transports commuters to and from Portland city center.
When a road or bridge toll is implemented, it never seems to go away! Funding should be provided with the fuel tax for the 'Repair or Replacement of Roads and Bridges' and those fuel taxes are NOT to be spent for other uses.
My vehicle has manual door locks, hand operated roll up windows, all around tinted windows, and wing windows in both front doors. It's Good to Go! No Natural Gas, Ethanol, or Electricity needed for this one.......
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
