Motorists beware: GA's "super speeder" law

GasBuddy Blog -- A heads up for motorists driving through Georgia: be extra careful to heed state speed limits in Georgia or it could cost you dearly.

Since the start of 2010, Georgia has been hitting motorists hard for what they call high-risk drivers- those convicted of speeding at 75-mph or more on two-lane roads or over 85-mph anywhere in Georgia. If you don't pay the fee, you'll be subject to license suspension and additional fines and fees.

Perhaps the worst isn't for those living in Georgia who already have been told about the new law, but unsuspecting motorists who drive through Georgia. The additional super speeder fee assessed by the state many times arrives weeks after the conviction, separate from other proceedings and fines...

"just another way to extract even more money out of people" who have no respect for the law or the property, even the lives, of others, so I have little sympathy for them.
If you aren't intelligent enough to realize 2 lane roads aren't built for 75 mph traffic, you really aren't intelligent enough to be allowed behind the wheel of a 1 or 2 ton weapon.

I like Texas, as you can travel 80 to 85 MPH legally on the I-10.

Illinois will suspend your license if you don't pay a traffic fine even if you get it in another State. Its smart to always watch your speed more when out of your own State. That's the plates the police watch for the most. They figure you wont be around to contest it, so a allot of innocent drivers have been ticketed. It might be in the mail before you get back home.

Drivers might also want to check out 'speedtrap.org'. Many, many little towns in GA are listed.

Wise motorist either drive at or near the speed limit or 4 to 5 miles per hour max above the speed limit. Rarely does anyone get a speeding ticket for driving 4 to 5 miles per hour above the speed limit in any state we have driven through.

Those who drive faster than 4 to 5 miles per hour above the posted speed limit will get what they deserve.

"punitive laws like this do little to stop speeders"

If people are too stupid to learn they deserve to make their voluntary contributions to the treasury.
They always have the option of driving like human beings instead of pretending they are somehow royally entitled to do what they darn well please while on public roads.

GA's "super speeder" law? Travel at the speed limit on all roads, highways and everything will be right with the world. Do Not drive at the speed limit and the wrath of the local government will fall upon you, many weeks after the conviction for the orginal speeding offense and here comes 'super speeders' with a heavy fine.
NOTHING is so important to be driving that fast!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Another argument for obeying the speed limit which is there for a reason folks and is easier on your car and prevents accidents.
