Taxpayer subsidies for electric vehicles & hybrids = $135 million

GasBuddy Blog -- If you're one of those folks who scratch their heads when the U.S. government tries to pump up one industry, one energy source, or one kind of vehicle versus another, and at the same time penalize competitors in related industries, while undermining products fueled by other energy sources...

Then you've probably noticed that anyone in your neighborhood who's driving an Electric Vehicle (EV) like the Nissan Leaf, or the Chevy Volt ($40k, MSRP) or a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid SUV hybrid... isn't shopping for clothes and housewares at Goodwill.

Incidentally, if you're in the market, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, which Cadillac calls "the world's first and only full-size luxury hybrid SUV", it has a MSRP range between $...

Is this day 2 or day 3 for the same article?

Stop the subsidies.

Especially to those who can buy $80K Cadillac SUV's. Use your own dime not ours.

It is as absurd as the Tea Baggers and Republicans in South Carolina wanting a tax credit or voucher to send their spoiled brats to private school.

That is nothing compared to the $538 million loan guarantee given to Solyndra which went under after taking the loan.

If you can afford an electric vehicle or a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, you don't need a taxpayer credit up to $3400...

When the hybrid vehicle is ready it will be able to sell itself. Remember back to the first time the VW Bettle came out. It sold itself without any pushing from governments.

Another case of government telling us what we need or what is best for us, even if most of us don't want or can't afford it. Mostly the subsidies will go to buyers who can pay cash for a car or have employment that lets them afford $500 plus a month car payments.

Lazy. Oooh - look at all the taxpayer money that went to all those rich people. How about a sanity check - how many of those really expensive hybrids were sold, -vs- the less expensive Honda and Toyota models?

...nothing surprising...someone has to buy the first ones before the price starts to drop...this is just like anything else, the early adopters have the money to pay the high prices to buy the product.

. . . whenever Govt subsidies or major tax rebates come about, it's never for the middle and lower classes - never. It's always about gov't paybacks to major campaign contributors.

Whatever happened to government staying out of business and letting the economic standards weed out less proficient - if a business cannot run on it's own merits, it should not be governments place to pump cash into it.

If you own a small dealership and cannot manage to make it go, why should our taxpayer dollars go to boost your inadequacies?

Obama is now pushing for an upfront $10,000 rebate on electric cars - for who's best interest? Chevrolet's? For you the tax payer? For who?

Is it a re-election ploy? How does that help you specifically?

You send in your taxes so that Jay Leno can get an instant $10,000 rebate on a Chevy Volt?

Stop the subsideis. If they want a Chevy Volt or a Nissan Leaf, or a Fiskar, or any other EV let them pay full price. Actually, since the Volt is rally a hybrid, why is it getting a subsidy in the first place??? I don't theik the other hybrids like the Prius, Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, Honda, etc. are getting subsideies.
