Tolls 'on target' for Ohio River Bridges Project

GasBuddy Blog -- Kentucky Dept. of Transportation says the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project's base toll rates are likely to hit the previously announced targets, including a $1 rate for a “frequent user” with a transponder.

Other “assumed rates” – all reflecting use of transponders and tolls automatically debited from an account – are $2 for other two-axle vehicles, $5 per “medium” truck and $10 per “heavy” truck.

The assumed rates were outlined in a recent briefing to the Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority (KPTIA), which will be selling toll revenue bonds to help finance the Downtown Crossing, the portion of the bi-state project that Kentucky is procuring and financing.

The traffic...

The problem is these tolls are never sunset! They take on a life of their own long after the road or bridge has been paid for....

Toll roads and bridges are built using no tax dollars which means they depend directly upon the users to pay for the cost of construction and maintenance.

Sad how taxes/levies continue to rise but most wage earners fall further & further behind because of loss of disposable income.

The money has to come from somewhere. The time is "now" to address the problem, not after a catastrophe.

Tolls are a user fee and affect those most concerned with the project. The only surprise is that the "numbers" came in as predicted and without over runs!

The project sounds expensive, all the tolls sound even more expensive. Wonder if the tolls will go away after the completion, it doesn't hurt to imagine the possibilities...

Tolls 'on target' for Ohio River Bridges Project?
Tax the users of the bridge with tolls that's already been funded with fuel taxes!
Usually, once taxes and tolls start, they never stop!
No toll roads or bridges here – Thank God!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Just don't divert the tolls to politicians' pet projects and then raise rates to cover 'shortfalls.'

If the money collected goes to the upkeep of the bridge then I don't see an issue. However I think the community needs to be involved in oversight to make sure this happens...

First we pay taxes to construct the bridge. Then, we pay more taxes to use it. The founding fathers would have busted some skulls over such bull$#*+.

I don't like tolls, but I'm not opposed to them if the tolls become the only funding source for that particular piece of highway and that 100% of those funds go to that particular segment of road.
