TxDOT unveils new crash report purchase system

GasBuddy Blog -- The Texas Department of Transportation has launched a new Web-based Crash Report Online Purchase System that allows the public to immediately access vehicle crash reports. Filed with TxDOT by law enforcement agencies, these reports often are requested by individuals seeking documentation of a crash.

“We’re excited about this new system and its ability to provide these reports quickly to the public,” said Carol Rawson, TxDOT director of traffic operations. “We understand people often have a real need to obtain a crash report quickly after they’ve been involved in a crash. This new system will allow them to access and download the reports in a matter of minutes once we’ve received the report from law enforcement.”

Nice touch, but notice the word "purchase"!!! It's not about convenience for the public, but making a buck for the state!!!!!!!!!!!

***It sounds like a good idea for the public but there can be abuses with this system. TxDOT be careful what you provide. ***It should be free but they will be charging too much for it anyway.
Drive vehicles with high mpg, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

This will save the hassle of having to go down to the police department to physically pick up the crash report.

Michigan has a similar program with the Michigan State Police. But you must get the accident code from the reporting officer at the time of the accident to go on line to find the report.
