I am not surprised by the results of the survey, since most people do not travel over the Easter weekend. In addition, most places of business are closed at that time.

Predictions are already out for over $3.00/gal this summer. Read the Reuters article in the news section on this site, which says we're driving more despite higher prices. AND the stocks on hand are dropping rapidly at a time when refineries normally are gearing up for the summer. Less gas + more demand = you guessed it, soaring prices.
Couple points of discussion: 1) What is going on that they are NOT starting to ratchet up for summer? Hmmm....could it be they know we will buy anyway and they are figuring on making out like bandits this summer? 2) And WHY are not we conserving more, instead of using more? Haven't we learned anything? I don't understand how people can so quickly forget what is in their own economic interest. Simple things like consolidating errands could save a lot and send a message to Big Oil! 3) What if we have another bad hurricane season? Remember a La Nina is developing now. La Ninas, unlike the El Nino of last summer, tend to promote hurricane formation in the Atlantic. The prediction is for a worse than average year. Could we be seeing gas in the $3.50-4.00 range? Comments, anyone?

Wow. 52% responding said it did not effect them at all. No wonder they can charge these prices. As long as we keep unlimited buying of gas, the prices will continue to increase. Supply and demand.

Midway through the weekend, I looked at the price of gas we were buying in the US versus the prices we are paying here in Toronto...20% cheaper (taking into account the conversion rate) across New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan...yes...we did a LOT of driving.
We figure it is big and buried taxes in Ontario on our gas money.

Medical problems have me filling up weekly instead of my normal bi-weekly. No plans for Easter, but do try and consolidate trips to minimize fuel usage. Thankfully the warmer weather shows my mileage up above 50 again, which I had not seen all winter driving in the snow.

We stayed local. If the oil companies suffer because I didn't consume overpriced fuel, then too bad. I've done just about all I can to save, economize, decrease use, stretch out fuel efficiency, and generally do all I can to demand less, and still pay more.

It affects my travel plans, being on a fixed income. When prices go up, I spend more, drive less. Prices go down, gives me a little more freedom. I was planning a trip from Albuquerque to near Cincinati, Ohio. At $3.00 a gallon with a vehicle that gets 25mpg, I'm second-thinking it. If gas stays in the $2.00 range, it's much more affordable.

If you don't buy a big soda and a bag of chips when you stop for gas, you'll pretty much save the cost increase for filling up. Do the math.

Not really because I hate to travel on the holidays. I try to wait & do my visiting when the traffic is less. But I saw $3.00 a gallon for regular in Greensboro,NC for the 1st time in my life.

I refused to pay higher holiday prices and stayed home. I waited until Tuesday to fill up and the price went down 6 cents. We will see over $3/gal long before summer ever gets here.

I voted "no" because visiting my 86-year-old mother at Easter wasn't something I would give up...had a 2.15 hour drive down to her city but just bit the bullet and filled up the Dakota.
However, there is another aspect to this poll: it should have read "did you travel anyway and cut back spending elsewhere to afford the gas?" I have a feeling this is what a lot of people have done, unless they have so much loot that gas prices don't matter to them at any price. Most of us make choices-and keeping in touch with family for most is a priority. I just spend less someplace else, like don't eat out, buy new clothes, borrow books,DVDs and videos from the library instead of buying or renting them, etc.
GADZOOKS...gas just went up AGAIN today! Now it is 2.83 for unleaded, 2.94 for diesel. It has gone up almost 20 cents in the last 10 days....
