A used car, probalby from TRiangle MOtors and if they don't have wnat we need, then we'll look else where.

You can get such a good deal with unsed cars, if you know where and what to buy.

Used from whomever. I don't like paying extra for insurance, depreciation, and taxes. Old cars work great and repairs do not come close to the costs of the above mentioned items. I have a 12 year old car now and I would trust it to go anywhere. I bought it five years old and the previous owner lost an average of $5000 a year in depreciation. He bought it for $35K. I saw the sales sheet with his documentation he gave me. I purchased it for $10K five years later. I have never spent $5000 repairing any car in one year. Yet he did it in depreciation 5 years in a row. Crazy.

If one wants an electric car at this point a dealer is probably the only option.

usually from a dealership. We have done both used and new and probably will not go back to used.
When we were younger, of course we bought used, but now we are more financially secure (not rich) we buy new and pay off as soon as possible to save interest money. We figure as others have that there are less repairs needed when a vehicle is bought new. The car our daughter drives is beginning to become expensive as amny parts are needing repairs or problems with no apparent solution are cropping up. It was bought new in 1997 (1997 model), it now has >150K miles, and is starting to show its age.

The last 2 vehicles I acquired were by gift and by lease. The gift was a 87 GMC S15 pickup from my mom. I drive the pickup less than 500 miles a year in the summer so it doesn't need much maintenance. The lease was a Saturn L200 and I opted to buy it once the lease was up. It's paid off now and all I have is up-keep and minor repairs that rarely come up. Both vehicles have been the cheapest to maintain of all the vehicles I've owned. When I decide to purchase a different vehicle I will be buying it brand new since in my experience they are the least expensive to maintain.

In the past when I purchased used vehicles they needed repairs often. It seemed like it would have been more cost effective and less stressfull to make new car payments instead of paying to get the used car fixed as often as I had to. Whith a new vehicle it is under a warranty for most the time you are paying for it, you know who is driving it and how it is being maintained. When you buy a used vehicle, in most cases, you don't have any idea how it has been maintained and treated by the previous owner.

I buy a new car every 6-8 years or so. With proper maintenance they have worked well for me. Tried Leasing, and it was too costly!

Buy a new car and keep it for a decade or longer. That is much cheaper than buying clunkers every year.

I certainly agree with many others who posted here that the drop in value of a new car, as soon as you leave the dealer's lot, is pretty hard to swallow.

That said, I like that new car smell (probably toxic however) and feel. Plus you can maintain it as well as you like. The cars I've driven for the last 30 years have lasted 8-12 years (just sold the '96 2 years ago). Mostly Pontiac and Toyota models.

But now that we have carfax, you have a decent chance of avoiding some of those lemons.

Never bought a new car in my life. Not worth the big drop in value as soon as it's taken off the lot! Have had mostly good luck with the used vehicles I've bought (mostly from dealers; a few from private parties).

I'll buy new from a dealer IF I ever have the opportunity again to do so. The only cars I like are rare enough that buying used isn't really an option. Plus I'm just too wary of previous owners skimping on important maintenance items like using the proper oil and what-not.

I won't ever buy a new vehicle again. Why lose that much money when you drive it off the lot. I will let someone else that doesnt car about money and loves being in debt take that loss. Plus I wont be buying american vehicles either. They are all junk. Until they learn to build a car that doesnt break down in the first 2 yrs then I will stay with German cars.

A new dealer would be worth it. Of cource it would also depend on the price, mileage, engine power, warranty, in some cases manufacturer, and the reasons for needing an auto.

New autos are worth the money. There are a number of used which can also be qualify as well.

Why would you buy new and take a beating on depreciation as soon as you drive it off the lot? With all the transferable warantees it doesn't make sense to pay thousands of dollars more for a new car.
