Another Study Finds Fracking Didn’t Contaminate Water

Yahoo News -- Tests and scientific experts have already claimed that many health and environmental concerns tied to hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, often voiced by opponents of the process, lack scientific backing. Now, yet another study has found that wells near fracking sites did not experience water contamination.
Duke University and members of the U.S. Geological Survey examined 127 drinking water wells for evidence of pollution from methane gas or chemicals. With more than 4,000 new gas wells drilled in Arkansas' Fayetteville Shale since 2004, researchers were looking for the presence of contamination from drilling, or from naturally occurring gas or ultra-salty liquids that seep up through pre-existing faults.

of course, there are lots of studies which say what the payee wants to hear... some truer than others.

a recent study did find some correlation between induced seismic activity and fracking due to water being taken out of interstitial crevices in the rock, which then can cause sliding of material. Geological slides are often seen as seismic tremor (or heavier actions are quakes).

USGS reports those free of charge. Interesting how in the past decade the number of areas where seismic adctivity suddenly has ballooned has increased in relation to where fracking is being done.

ohrocker, your dilemma is understood.

I think to find that answer you'd have to look at the studies, of which there are plenty, that show fracking in and of the process has not contaminated water.

When you look at the other side, of which there are plenty as well, you have to look at the insinuation without regard to the facts.

When we hear continuos insinuation with out fact, it is like sitting on a jury.

The verdict should be based on the facts and not on hearsay.

Another Study Finds Fracking Didn’t Contaminate Water. The wells near the fracking sites did Not experience contamination but what about later when the fracking water has had a chance to move around underground or move towards the surface? Then test the nearby water sources above and below ground and see what the actual results are.
Better extraction methods developed to get fossil fuels out of the ground, in higher quantities and not harming the surface and underground waters with fracking operations. When the fracking is over and the company has moved on, the water is contaminated, then what?
We need have to have clean drinkable water and uncontaminated lakes and streams!
Then will another fracking study some other time and the results may be the same or totally different.
Frack On Garth? No Wayne!

I don't know what to believe anymore. Does it or doesn't it contaminate the water? Who is telling the truth and who is lying?

This must be a lie. How are we going to stop fracking with this kind of story?

As long as the wells are completed PROPERLY, there should be no contamination, frac'ing or not...

<<"All I can say is do you believe that fracking will leave the planet in better shape for our kids and grandkids and their kids and grandkids?>>"

My answer, likely no better and no worse.

I will say that without fracking they'll be less healthy, considering where we'd be without all the medical advances derived from petrochemicals.

Tell it to the people who can set their drinking water on fire, who's water now looks like something you'd never want to drink, tell it to the ranchers who have to ship in clean water for their livestock, who's crops die after being watered after the fracking companies come in and drill for oil.

Water wells have different depths. What works in one area doesn't in another and they have to drill deeper for water.

This study is flawed. Wonder who funded it. Hmmmmm?

Colorado and Wyoming: Massive pollution.
Arkansas: No pollution.
Pennsylvania: Depends on where you're at.

What's the key here?
