California gas prices jump more than 5 cents a gallon in 24 hours

LA Times -- In what was seen as a reaction to a fire at a major oil refinery in Northern California, pump prices for regular gasoline statewide rose more than a nickel a gallon from Wednesday to Thursday, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Price jumps of more than 2 cents in a 24-hour period are uncommon.

Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said the fire at Chevron Corp.'s sprawling Richmond refinery "had an immediate effect on the wholesale gasoline market. Although the refinery is on the shore of San Rafael Bay, north of San Francisco and Oakland, it's an important fuel provider for Southern California.

Californians don't care about a reliable and abundant supply of gas and this is what you get. I am sure that attitude will change when gas rarely goes below $5 a gallon and they will sound like Texans when it breaks $10 a gallon.

When prices jump... they are in the lead and frequently... they jump by more than 25 cents when they jump. Bottom line... I do not buy gasoline from either of these companies.

We in Western Canada in Calgary jumped 7 cents a litre the day after. That would be 26.74 cents for a US gallon for those of you idiots that don't know metric. At 1.169 a litre, we are paying over $4.41 for a US gallon while other parts of Canada are paying far more. STAY AWAY FROM US FOR HOLIDAYS.
