Maybe the Chevy dealer was a Canadian and he forgot that Americans honor and protect their military members and veterans.

This is not good nor, was it the correct thing to do. America, has laws against this and for good reason. This is one stupid move by the dealership and besides not good pr. This dealership will lose in more ways then one. Asinine action!

In Canada there are no such laws to protect Reservists. If your employer has an issue(s) with you serving in the Canadian Forces, then you have to make a choice.

"Support your troops". Ribbons on cars and buildings with that slogan. Looks like in some cases it is just words.
Hope this kid wins his lawsuit and the negative publicity kills the business.

Federal Law GUARANTEES his job, under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act.
Hope [the lawyers] take that dealer to the cleaners.

I like to see the potential patrons of Chevrolet of Milford force the dealership to choose between making Derek whole, with punitive damages or, hang up "going out of business fire sale signs."

I had the same thing happen to me when I was a temp, working at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Of course, as a temp, I couldn't afford a lawyer to fight it.

From the article...
"Derek Laaser was forced by his supervisor at Chevrolet of Milford to choose between serving his country or serving Chevy, his lawyers allege in a lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport."
He could have served Chevy even while serving the military, considering all taxpayers have bailed out GM.

It was about 9 years ago I was a manager at Circuit City. I remember 2 of our top employees enlisted and both did 2 years overseas. They both made it back, and yes shook up but even after training 2 new people who stayed and did good I was not only happy but proud to have them return. Hope that Chevy dealer pays for their mistake in big way

The local Connecticut dealer and the future Marine should make an agreement, before a future legal decision might set a hard precedent for future cases. The delaer should understand that what Laaser learned at the dealership is very helpful to his future military career, and vice versa, and should realize the benefits of good publicity and the detriment of bad publicity.
