Why sell diesel in the US? Big Oil exports diesel for higher profits! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

@JimVP, diesel has more energy stored within it than gasoline does. There are approximately 20% more BTUs of energy in a gallon of diesel than there is in a gallon of gasoline. That is why diesel has better fuel economy.
However, since fewer gallons of diesel are refined from a barrel of crude oil than gasoline, the efficiency standpoint of diesel is essentially a wash.
And to those complaining about the increased cost of sulfur removal from diesel, that's the price you need to pay for cleaner air. Sulfur dioxide from diesel exhaust leads to acid rain.
We need all the trees we can get.

The problem with diesel, @wayoung56, is that you get far less diesel from a barrel of crude oil than what you get of gasoline. Increased diesel consumption means that more barrels of crude are needed to refine into diesel than are needed to refine into gasoline. The difference in yield is why diesel costs more.
It also doesn't help that Big Oil exports diesel out of this country to Europe, where demand for diesel is much higher, with all of the diesel passenger cars on the road, over there.

And guess who's paying for the fuel, no matter what type it is? We are! So I think we should be able to vote for the type and price, just as we would if we were buying it directly for our own personal consumption.

I wonder why we do not certify more bio-diesel and use it. There are many products to get it from and can be blended in I would guess.

High diesel prices do not make sense, diesel is easier (i.e. less expensive) to distill from crude oil than gasoline...

I own 2 diesel trucks and diesel has not been cheaper then unleaded since the ultra low sulphur came out. It's BS diesel fuel is a lot cheaper to produce but now with all the emmisions out it has taken all the advantages of owning a diesel.

I thought it was a more efficient fuel source, but must question this increase in the cost.

diesel should be cheaper than gas. It's cheaper to manufacture so diesel owners just get screwed by the producers. The article call it diesel gasoline. I believe they are 2 distinct fuels.

They won't be happy until they put us in a depression. I'm sure that prices will magically come down if the Republicans win the election.

did or did not big earl always tell everyone that diesel should cost less since it is not as processed as other fuels.something hinky going on there.......maybe natural gas lobbyists are trying to force trucking companies to think it will be cheaper to switch over to all natural gas engines/cng. : )in other words making behind closed door deals to drive up diesel prices so trucking comapnies will switch to cng/then pull the rug out from under them and jack up natural gas/cng prices. : )hmmmmmmm? make sme think how about the truckers unions.....jimmy hoffas rolling over in his grave under some building pylon somewhere. : )
