Ethanol helps spur corn's northward move in Minn.

Crookston Times -- Corn is marching northward in Minnesota, spurred in part by higher prices from the ethanol boom and by new varieties that mature before the frost sets in.
That means new opportunities for producers like Gary Purath, a fourth-generation farmer who grows corn, soybeans and wheat and raises Angus cattle near Red Lake Falls in northwestern Minnesota.

But it also means land set aside for years in the federal Conservation Reserve Program sometimes gets plowed in favor of corn. That disturbs Dan Svedarsky, director of the Center for Sustainability at the University of Minnesota-Crookston, who has followed land use trends there for over 44 years. He said he has seen a "massive transfer" of erodible land in the region from conservation into corn and soybeans in just the past two years.

Ethanol is why your food bill is so high. Milk and eggs and bacon ( and a whole lot of other prices ) prices are directly affected by corn prices.

There's no demand for ethanol, only EPA mandates that have no basis in reality or economic sense.

ELIMINATE the ethanol mandate. There is not enough farmable land in this country, or on this planet, to provide for both the pantries and the fuel tanks of the population.

If it's true that all corn, at least commercially grown, is genetically modified with insecticide in it, that may be what's killing the bees. Recently there was a Time magazine about the result of that.
