Ferrari to Produce its First Hybrid Supercar

Oilprice.com -- Car manufacturers are under increasing pressure to reduce the CO2 emissions released by their models, and this has lead most to start producing hybrid or electric versions of their cars. Even European supercar companies such as Porsche, Jaguar, and McLaren have their own high powered, green supercars, utilising hybrid or clean diesel technology. Ferrari is the only company which has managed to become a leader in reducing its carbon emissions (mainly because its emissions were so high to start with) without using hybrid, electric, or diesel engines.

Now Ferrari have announced that they have developed a new V12 engine which uses a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), commonly used in Formula 1 to give the cars a power boost.

I'd love to own a Ferrari. Even a hybrid model. I'll have to wait until I win the lottery.

I have nothing against hybrids, but I don't really see the point in having a hybrid Ferrari? Maybe it is because I will probably never own a Ferrari anyway, but isn't the point of that type of car is to be able to "go like hell"? I would have thought the hybrid concept would deter that dream.

MUCH more than the Volt, plus they won't need taxpayer-subsidized rebates to sell them. PLUS, they'll retain a high percentage of their resale value, whereas the Volt like most Chevys will drop like a rock.

Locomotives are hybrids, there is no reason why semi-tractors cannot be hybrids too. The advantage of a hybrid is that the electric motor provides the tractive power, and the diesel or gasoline engine only needs to be large enough to provide the maximum continuous power, not the power for acceleration.

WOW! An engine that can cut the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 40 percent, AND at the same time increasing the power output. That certainly sounds like something that OUR auto industry should look into.
