Gas prices expected to fall further
Tuesday, October 07, 2008
CNN Money -- NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- If there's one bright spot in a bad economy, it's that gasoline prices have fallen, and they're expected to drop even further.

As the global economy falters, demand for oil has dropped. And since the price of oil makes up about half of the cost of a gallon of gas, analysts see more relief ahead at the pump.

"We ought to see prices drop pretty quickly," said American Automobile Association spokesman Geoff Sundstrom. "We're well on our way to $3 gas within the next week or two."

I think the high prices lasted long enough, and the fact that environmentalism has gone mainstream will kep some of the waste down. People will start using more gas again, though. I know that I didn't visit family as often as I wanted because I couldn't afford to do the 100 miles each way. Now I may do an extra trip or two this year. However, I will not sit with the engine running. I use the AC in my car sparingly.

At home, many people have programmable thermostats. This will keep their consumption down, even if they increase the temperature a little. It makes it easier to lower the temp when you are out and have it come back up for when you get home. People also insulated their houses better, so that saving will continue, even if oil drops to $10/barrel. (Which will never happen again)

I still have to believe this to see it. I do not believe there is any reason for prices to still be as high as they are in our area other than price gouging. When you see other places that are below $3.00 per gallon, why are we still about $3.35. I am sure there is not that much difference in what the different stations pay for the gas.

Prices around the East side of Atlanta have dropped into the $3.60's, but it is still WAY TOO high for my taste. I am conserving and encouraging everyone to conserve as much as possible. I would love to see it hovering around the $1.50 mark again, like the old days. (lol)

of course prices are falling because they think the economy will be so bad that nobody will need to drive anywhere.

Lower gasoline prices may relieve the pain at the pump, but they are also a sign of a significant economic downturn. Cheap fuel is a very small issue if you are not working.

Oil is a great product. It is used in many things we use everyday. The US has many oil fields that can make and keep us independent.

Prices falling may be too late for many. Especially those who bailed out earlier before Big Gov stepped in to help in the housing industry.

Now, if the price of gasoline falls because demand falls way off, because we are conserving and using alternatives, I am overjoyed... if it falls and people resume their bad and wasteful driving habits, I'll be upset.

Come on, Oil Addicts... kick the addiction to oil!

Still over priced, I didn't get desensitized by the $1.50/gallon increase only to feel good when it drops 50 cents.
