Neat. Sounds similar to the CRT monitors of old. Question is how durable/reliable is this microscopic mirror that has to move constantly? Also, why do they have to have green? Why don't they just use other colors?

As long as it is actually worthwhile and not just an expensive distraction/toy.

The heads up display looks cool, but is it safe? We’re not all fighter pilots.

If it works for airplane pilots, why not autos? Sounds likke it mighht be a little distracting instead of the intent.

I think Mercedes has one coming out. Its a $100,000 car. I remember way back, 80's I believe Datsun/Nissand had it in the 240sx in the left corner for speed. It was cool

Predictions about cost declines usually come true, only problem is the timing, don't hold your breath. This will be strictly high end for some time. I will note that the Corvette HUD is great and after using it for a very short time, you miss it in anything else you drive. Then again you don't drive anything else like the Vette so it's usefulness would be limited.

This technology is not as new as you might think. Visual data windshields were part of what NASA was commercializing in the late 1990s in their general aviation project. They were working on renting general aviation planes with updated technology at airports similar to car rental. There is a gap in cost efficiency between driving and longer commercial flights. Seems that it is cost efficient to drive one's car up to 300 miles and it is cost efficient to fly commercial if you are going more than 700 miles. The gap is 300-700 miles. I heard the project manager make a presentation at a civic club and was fascinated.
Alas, my guess is that September 11, 2001 ended the project.
