The Japanese automaker said the Skyactiv-G gasoline engine can be easily modified for CNG with only minor changes.

"Demand for CNG-powered vehicles is increasing all over the world and the Skyactiv-CNG Concept adopts a dual fuel system that runs on both gasoline and CNG," said Mazda in a statement on Monday. "CNG engines must burn fuel at high pressure and because the Skyactiv-G gasoline engine already achieves a high compression ratio, it can easily be modified for CNG with only minor modifications."

The only problem with dual fuel cars is that they need two fuel tanks which either takes trunk space or reduces the size of both tanks which reduces the range of both.

If I had a full time job that pays more than $9.50/hr... I just might be able to buy another used car at 1/10th the price. Oh, well, guess I will just have to putz along in my 11 year old car!

The engine is not the problem. The size of a CNG tank is the issue.

Some people don't need a huge vehicle to overcompensate for their other shortcomings.

Because CNG is hardly available anywhere. Makes looking for an EV charging station seem easy by comparison.

I do, however, like the dual fuel concept. Gasoline & NG. That way you enjoy NG when available and gasoline when not.

I saw a sign driving down I-35 in Oklahoma that an Exxon (IIRC) station had CNG available. One CNG station probably couldn't get you across Oklahoma.

Good. Mazda has some good small cars. It is best for everybody to keep trying what solution they think may work. Great finding takes many tries.
