"No easy answer..." Who are they kidding? Remove greed from the equation of the oil companies. Get the car companies to get off their high horse and force them to make more car w/ better fuel economy. There are many answers out there, they just don't want to spend their money, just take ours.

as long as the focus remains on oil and gasoline and not on alternative renewables, we will be having this (now pointless) discussion... as soon as we reduce and eventually eliminate our dependance on oil for fuel, the sooner we can argue about something else

a narrow-minded article that fails to mention Mexico is already in decline, and tar-sands are very slow to extract and can't meet current demand.
In fact it mentions "environmental reasons" so the tree huggers get the blame, without saying how limited the ANWR reserves likely are. What a bunch of hooey! Everybody here should get with the program and come to realize the oil will not last forever. CONSERVE NOW! Park your pickups and save a few drops for our grandchildren.

Funny how no one mentions that we haven't even begun to explore the possibility of drilling in the Eastern Continental Shelf from Maine to Florida. Instead its always ANWAR, ANWAR, ANWAR. Our biggest potential for oil is off-limits b/c we don't want to drill where people actually live.

It's still cheaper for Big oil to pay OPEC for the oil, than it is to drill in the USA because of all the enviromental laws. I don't want to live in a polluted land, but some of our Enviromental laws are simply over the top. They have pushed the cost of drilling here, beyond the recovery point.

How about maybe the oil companies stop making billions and billions in record profits and not gouge us quite so much for the gasoline? What a concept!

With the geopolitical situation so fractured, and with world demands and all, I think the only solution is no-holds-barred exploration in all of the US. No matter where oil or energy sources can be found, we must exploit them.

And again, the promice / hope that there is enough oil. It is just in places too difficult / costly to get to now. When the price of oil goes up, it won't. But who will have any money to buy it?

Imagine a 10x10 carpet and a golf ball on the corner. That's the area of ANWR where we have a mega supply of oil. Imagine pipelines instead of tankers leaking across the ocean. Ask your liberal friends to think outside of the eco box they seem to be trapped in.
