JUNEAU -- Signs of skepticism emerged Friday over the deal applauded by the Parnell administration last month to resolve long-running litigation over the Exxon Mobil-operated Point Thomson oil and gas field.

The huge field, some 60 miles east of Prudhoe Bay, is Alaska's remaining "crown jewel" on state lands, the state Senate Judiciary Committee was told. It holds hundreds of millions of barrels of oil but the real prize has always been the natural gas, estimated by the state at eight trillion cubic feet.

Under the Point Thomson settlement, the state could end up with much of the oil left in the ground

Nothing ever happens fast in Alaska. The road construction in downtown Fairbanks is finally taking place "LIVE AND IN COLOR" directly in front of the Fairbanks News-Miner "Arctic Cam" after being in the planning stages for 30 years.

Progress! Use the resources NOW. So called pristine landscape and natural beauty and save for later are code words for commies who want to destroy America by using brainwashed useful idiots. We want energy and power NOW.

The fields or pastureland is where the wild life lives today. Why destroy their habitat for a few dollars today and by tomorrow it’s a wasteland?

Wow, it's hard to think of a better illustration of the fallacy of allowing government to be allowed to participate in commerce, let alone be a key player in a huge enterprise.

The structure of government is simply not amenable to the kind of accountability the marketplace brings to decision-making, and what you inevitably get are bad decisions.

The core of the problem is that most of Alaska's land is owned by the State ... either Alaska or the Federal state ... so Alaska becomes the poster child for this kind of nightmare.

Let's switch to algae-based bio-fuels and be done with it.

Exxon could only use the blow down method if it can prove to the oil and gas commission that it won't waste the resource
