Poll: Obama Dodges Blame for Gas Prices

Bloomberg BusinessWeek -- On Monday I wrote about how the White House, in releasing its energy progress report and going on the TV news circuit to talk about it, was trying to deflect attention from Republicans’ latest attack line: blaming the Obama administration for rising prices at the pump.

Guess what? It turns out that most Americans don’t actually blame the President for the high gas prices—at least so far. This, according to a Bloomberg National Poll out today. (More on the poll from my colleague Mike Dorning). Sixty-six percent of the 1,002 adults surveyed say that “the oil companies and Middle East nations who are taking advantage of [tensions with Iran] to make more money” are most responsible for higher gas prices.

LetemEatCake, and what strategy did Obama employ back in 2008? You drank the Kool-Aid, didn't you? By the way, your moniker "LetemEatCake" is popularly attributed to Marie Antoinette. That is a falsehood. Look it up.

I am relieved to see that the majority of Americans are smarter than the Republican president candidates appear to be. Pointing a finger at someone is always the easiest to do...Is it not?

I don't blame the President, I blame his policies, which he does own. Did you see his energy secretary "walking back" his previous statements in front of congress yesterday. Priceless. "I used to be for higher prices, now I am not". You can't make this stuff up!

Let's see if I've got this right. Obama is blamed for high gas prices but is not credited for killing bin Laden. W Bush gets some credit for killing bin Laden but was not blamed when gas prices went up.

a poll of 1002 people , in my books , doesn't really show much. try maybe 50 million people then you might have a good idea .

maybe not to blame - but he could show more leadership and make more meaningful energy decisions - especially in convincing wall street and congress that speculator rules already set to go into place should not be
disallowed - put them in place as set-up

High oil prices are needed to make cracking worthwhile because it is an expensive way to get oil.

Or more accurately, "Poll: people realize that President is not to blame for gas prices." Only Fox and right wing bozos blame Obama for high gas prices, which is funny since they claimed Bush has nothing to do with gas prices a few years back and Obama NEVER blamed Bush for gas prices. Sorry haters. Actually, no I'm not. Some people really need to get their facts straight.

It's his plan to have gas prices raised so of course he will dodge the blame. He wants to change the subject to something else.

Obama is only partly to blame, but partly to blame he IS! He said you'd all be paying more for energy costs if he was elected and his agenda was passed, and a good portion is already passed and he's not done yet. Just wait if he's re-elected. Then you'll be paying even more. More of us will have less still than the little we do have, and more of YOU will have less as well.

what would be great is if BHO would appologize to George Bush

When he was canidate BHO he blamed Bush for high gas prices, he should say

"I'm sorry President Bush, I did not realize you could not control gas prices, and that's why I can't either.."

But NO he should recieve the same

I love how Bloomberg, the media outlet that speculators love, does not see speculators as the most responsible for high gas prices.

Get over it. Bush and his buddies pulled a big scam and we will pay
for this for years. The republicans are responcible for the oil and
gas ripoff, the democrats are ripping us off on other things. Were
being screwed and most people still want to put hope in a bunch of
trash called republicans and democrats.

No surprist - he hasn't taken responsibility for anything. He thinks the economy still belongs to Bush. (Bush who?)
