The Most Fuel-Efficient 2012 Cars

The daily green --

2012 Mitsubishi i (MiEV)
$29,125 MSRP
112 MPG-equivalent
$540 annual fuel cost

Electric cars are still very much a niche category, but a growing one, with the addition of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV to the fleet that was born last year. For shorter trips, or folks who can charge up at work, electric cars are a great option, and federal tax incentives will knock up to $7,500 off the purchase price (check for state incentives, too). Among 2012 electric cars, the new i-MiEV leads the pack both for fuel-efficiency and cost, and ranks as the most fuel-efficient car of the year.

It's a little thing though, so if you're in the market for an electric car with more room than a sub-compact offers, try the Chevrolet Volt, a plug-in hybrid that ranks as a compact ($39,145; 94 MPG for electric, 37 MPG

Most of us wouldn't bother with an electric vehicle due to travel limitations, but they're great around town.

Quite frankly, not one of those vehicles out there impresses me much.

These are overpriced status symbols for the rich to buy (and taxpayers to subsidize) to park in their driveways to look green.

Smart for two coming out with an electric version? The gas version is already very expensive, let alone an electric version.

Just because you are not paying for gas, you are still paying in electricity which uses coal. So these green cars are polluting the earth in their own special way.

Time to put an end to the $7500 taxpayer subsidy for electric car buyers. Only the rich are buying them, so it is just another tax break for the wealthy.

A large number of voters do not have the resources to buy or have the credit to finance a Volt or Hybrid. The mortgage crisis, student loan debt crisis, and massive unemployment and under-unemployment has done a lot of damage to our money trees over the past several years.
