The era of unlimited carbon pollution is over

Politico -- This week, the Environmental Protection Agency will move against climate change by continuing the job it was created to do, 40 years ago, by a bipartisan Congress.

Some will, and already are, treating this as a deplorable event with intolerable consequences. It’s anything but: Not only is it the law, it’s also good for America.
The EPA is ready to roll out an updated version of proposed federal limits on how much carbon pollution can be released into the sky by future power plants. Already, critics say this pollution prevention initiative will ban construction of new coal-fired power plants. But if they can’t build one without dumping unlimited amounts of carbon pollution into the air — from the view of our economy and our health — that’s not a bad thing.

We’ve also heard this argument b

majjad points out:

"Carbon is neither a toxin nor a pollutant..."

Quite true; this is just "politically correct" nonsense. Carbon is, in fact, the essential cornerstone of all life that we know about.

Yup, a new world record for cold was just set. Majjad's link is one of many reporting this news.

Plus all you have to do is look around the US this week. The entire country is in a deep freeze. Especially areas which don't get snow , like the south. Proof of the fallacy of global warming.

New record LOW temperatures in the Antarctic in the last few years which were recently discovered in NASA satellite data:

http://www.nbcnews.com/science/not-thats-c-c-c-cold-antarctica-sets-record-135-2D11719427

But I thought that Antarctica was losing it's ice pack because of AGW...

Here is a link of Co2 levels over the last 600 million years. Please note that the Earth is currently Co2 impoverished.

Thank you for the facts Hemond.

It reminds of the sage old advice, never ask a question when you are calling someone out and you have no clue as to the answer!

It's funny how paid liberal green shills will claim to have a knowledge of science yet fail in even basic understanding.

I suspect that's a question you do not care to discuss.:::

Au contraire, I never pass up the opportunity to give a liberal enviro greenie a good spanking.

Humans do extremely well is high CO2 environments since we spend 90% of our lives in them. CO2 levels may be 400ppm outdoors but indoors they are typically 650 to 1000ppm or higher, often much higher. Do you live in a house? Do you drive in a car? Do you work in an office? Do you shop in a mall? If you do you are in a high CO2 environment.

Do you sleep in a bedroom? Perhaps with the door shut? Then every night you breath in an extremely high concentration of CO2.

Here is one fact sheet. offering maximum workplace CO2 standards. The maximum safe workplace exposure is 10,000ppm per 8 hour shift.

Hah! the 350 to 400ppm commonly lambasted by greenies is nothing compared to what we live in daily indoors. They only way for you greenies to avoid CO2 is live in a tent and work on a ranch. (I never slopped hogs, or mucked out a horse stall. Hope you like doing that for a career as thats the only way to stay out of a high CO2 environment. That or wear a gas mask.

Clever bait and switch Hemond.

Are you hoping no one noticed how you switched over to talking about how PLANTS thrive on high CO2?

Yes indeed. Plants do thrive on very high CO2 levels.

Now, let US get back to the legitimate topic of HUMAN life and CO2.

Now tell US Hemond. How do HUMANs fair in excessively high CO2 levels?

I suspect that's a question you do not care to discuss. Maybe you should go eat some plant food?

Check your materials.
Is there something there telling you what to do when someone catches your bait & switch tactic?

How do you justify this to yourself Hemond? Maybe because it is not really a "lie", just a bait & switch half truth that relies on people not understanding the science enough to catch your deception between human requirements and plant requirements? Or is that giving you too much credit?

Oh dear. There is that legitimate science thing again.

Yes, PLANTS thrive on CO2, however, HUMANS do not.

All of these so-called scientists hyperventilating over "climate change" or human-induced global warming should study more science so they can properly read the data from polar ice core samples which clearly indicate that the periodic rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels follows - and does NOT precede - rises in global temperatures...

Study more science? I have a BS in physics. Carbon dioxide is plant food. A major part of the biological cycle. Critical to the continuance of life on earth. Its not a pollutant.

Your reference to carbon monoxide is nonsensical. YOu are the one who needs to study more science.

I just realized that I had a typo in my comments below. It should have read, "... carbon DIoxide is very different chemically from carbon MONoxide. Just that one little OXYGEN atom makes all the difference between a gas that is essential to life on this planet, and one that is very toxic and lethal..."

Hey, teafortwo.... carbon DIoxide is very different chemically from carbon MONoxide. Just that one little carbon atom makes all the difference between a gas that is essential to life on this planet, and one that is very toxic and lethal. Every time that you breathe, you exhale more carbon dioxide than you inhale since carbon dioxide is a by-product of human cellular activity. Most plants - and a few animals - absorb carbon dioxide from the air and combine it with water to produce carbohydrates, a source of fuel.

Please give the citation in a peer-reviewed scientific journal that details the experiment demonstrating that increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere cause atmospheric temperature to rise.

Those of you claiming that CO2 (carbon dioxide) is not a pollutant?

Really need to study more science.

Or perhaps you are simply big fans of 'industry science' instead of legitimate hard science?

Do you also endorse high levels of carbon monoxide in the air we breathe?

Especially if your true intention is creating work for respiratory therapists and ER's.

Have any of these geniuses figured out how much the cost of a kWh of electricity is going to increase if this legislation goes into effect? They had better, because you know who's going to foot the bill.

Actually, the EPA was created to address pollution, in particular, toxic waste dumping. They were never tasked by Congress to deal with "climate change" at all. Some people just assume that you are too stupid to remember that.

Carbon dioxide is NOT a pollutant. It is an integral part of the life cycle on this planet. I know of NO scientific studies that show increasing atmospheric temperatures as a consequence of an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. The polar ice core data show the exact opposite happening in the history of the earth. The current hysteria is the result of a hoax perpetrated by Al Gore and his leftist buddies in order to gain control of the world's economies. His Noble prize is a laughable absurdity.

The EPA is one of the most dangerous outfits running the US today. Unelected bureaucrats answering to no one, not Congress, not the President. Only interested in building their own empires.

There is no global warming going on yet the EPA goes along as if it is. Dreaming up new regs that only serve to enhance their power.

climate change is a joke, who cares how much crap goes into the atmosphere? might as well let your vehicle idle forever,as it makes no difference, and it is good for big oil. I know this is true as I read it on the internet.

polarbear2 - your unintentional irony is funny, since you mix opposites (leftist and Nazi). Since the US political landscape is so tilted to the right most Americans don't even realize they are sliding towards fascism, it's no wonder they think anything less extreme than Mussolini is leftist.

Here in Honolulu, even a modest photovoltaic array can provide you with all the electricity you need. I run my house and charge my car exclusively on sunshine, I feel for all of you who cannot do this, oh well, keep the faith, maybe you will get a nuke plant in your neighborhood to make up for that shortcoming.

Renewables can be competitive with fossil fuels, depends on how much sun strikes your location, and how much wind you get. If you live in an area that has little wind and sun, YOU ARE SCREWED!, don't even think about relying on renewables, because the ROI will not work!

GOGOGoodyear got it right! The real problem is that although the US can take all the steps it wants to reduce pollution to zero, there are other countries which will continue on as they have been. Some of them can create as much or more pollution as the US is eliminating. The air circulates around the globe and does not respect national borders, so we will still have the same effects regardless of where in the world we live.

And yes, many industries have complained in the past when new regulations were imposed on them and eventually they complied and things improved. Things also got more expensive as a result!!

You can have almost anything you want, if you are willing to pay for it... but will the American public be willing to pay for it, while other countries continue their carefree ways?
