Tier 3 Regulations

Canada Free Press -- EPA intends to tighten the screws, in the midst of a severe recession with high gasoline prices is particularly reckless

Although the general public hasn’t heard much about it, the EPA is preparing to issue so-called “Tier 3” regulations on automakers and refiners, which are even more stringent than the “Tier 2” standards announced in 1999 and fully implemented in 2006. As usual, EPA hasn’t given a satisfactory justification for the tightening of the standards. One study conservatively estimates Tier 3 would impose an upfront compliance cost on refiners of almost $10 billion, and would permanently raise refinery costs 6 to 9 cents per gallon.

"Conclusion

Even in a prosperous economy, tightening the screws even more on the vehicle and refining sectors—while achieving little if any incremental environmental benefits—would be a dubious proposition. To do so, as EPA intends, in the midst of a severe recession with high gasoline prices is particularly reckless."

Well, okay, then. Probably won't change decisions, though...

Tier 3 will lower the sulfur content of gasoline and diesel, adds 6 to 9 cents per gallon of fuel AND lowers the emission standards for engines. It does Not matter what kind of economy or lack of adequate jobs there are for 'coming out of the closet' Barry, the EPA will implement these regulations no matter what! Take care of the economy first, the EPA and Barry have 'gone wild!'
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe and reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

For the posters that believe they KNOW everything, try crawling out from under your rock and travel out of the U.S. to China or India and breath in the stuff we refer to as air there and let us all know what you think.Wouldn't you like to breath that everyday here?

Is this necessary? What future environmental impact will this measure have, especially considering the growing demand for gasoline in China, India and Africa where no such regulations exist.

The EPA has way too much authority. They should be an advisory board to the President, Congress and Senate only, nothing more.

EPA has become to smart for itself. Seems it is more interested in making money for the gov't while giving all a giant headache for no valid reason. They do not seem to know how to do things in a more meaningful way. Power has gone to its head.

"P" stands for protection; "A" stands for agency. We're not exactly sure what "E" stands for.

We need to do away with the EPA, they answer to no one. They have long outlived their usefulness. Please vote for a change in November!

Sounds like another waste of money to follow through with this plan. It always seems to be something brewing with the government that will pass their "great ideas" onto the consumer at some additional cost.

Interesting piece but it is not a news article, rather an opinion column on a conservative blog, not within GB guidelines for Newsville.
