U.S. consults oil experts as it weighs action against Syria

Reuters -- (Reuters) - Obama administration officials have contacted energy experts in recent days to discuss oil market conditions as the president weighs a military strike against Syria, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

There are no signs the government is preparing to tap emergency oil reserves soon in a bid to tame rising prices, according to the sources who spoke with Reuters this week, though the administration is closely monitoring the situation.

Fears about Syria's civil war spilling over into other countries have helped propel international oil prices to their highest level in six months, rising more than $8 a barrel since the beginning of the month, and approaching a level that has slowed the global economy in the past.

That has spurred early market chatter about whether Ob

Do you know how to stimulate the economy?

Start a war!

War hawks know how to stimulate the economy, just like the local thug.

The local thug breaks a window and the local economy is stimulated! The home owner calls the handyman to fix the window. The glass company sells glass.

Sadly, the international leaders believe they must kill people to stimulate the world economy!

Hey, what are a few hundred or thousand wasted lives compared to keeping the oil industry going, right?

The last thing Nobama wants to do is stimulate the economy - so he isn't thinking about Syria in those terms.

He set his line in the sand thinking he would never have to do anything about it.

This is all a big distraction so Obummer can get the heat off of him for the failed job. Gas was a $1.68 a gal 5yrs ago.

"SEe barry if we have been drilling more over the last 5 years we would not have to give a rip about oil-supply disruptions in the Middle East."

Oil production has increased every year for the last five years after declining every year for eight years under the previous administration. Oil production is at the highest level since 1997.

"Some people will find any reason to criticize this president."

"Obama derangement syndrome is running pretty high right now among a certain segment of the Republican base," Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling, told me. "There's a certain segment of people who say, 'If you're going to give me the opportunity to stick it to Obama, I'm going to take it.'"

In other words, a large number of that 29 percent who said Obama was responsible for the Katrina response knew that he wasn't but saw it as a chance to register their displeasure with the president. Obama has driven a large number of Republican voters — Jensen puts it at 15 percent to 20 percent of the overall electorate — right off their rockers. And to that, there is only one thing to say.

Heckuva job, Barry.

I sure wish they would take a poll about continuing in office! Just wet their collective fingers and stick them in the air to see how many cruise missiles you will send at a million a pop!

take a poll and figure out our foreign policy? Not saying that the current administration is lost or anything....I wouldn't actually say that. I might think it though.

we jumped into Iraq and Afganistan with no planning and it cost us trillions in dollars and 6000 lives plus 100000 lost limbs and who knows how many PTSD's. I support taking the caution route before jumping into another conflict we won't win.

Obama will probably do what Clinton did................take a poll to see how his actions will affect voter impressions. Then he'll decide how to address the Syrian issue. Sad times we are living in.

Took Obama 8 months to act on Bin Laden, what are we in the 3rd year on Keystone XL without a response? We tell them what we are going to do, when we are going to do it, what we aren't going to do (take out Assad) ask for the blessing of the UN and other countries. If this bozo had been president in WWII we would be speaking German right now.

Isn't this exactly what Obozo complained about Bush doing in 2008?

Oblunder will do just about anything to keep gas prices at $4/gallon it seems.

The SCUMBA* REPUBLICANS are pushing OBAMA to take action so they can blame him if it doesn't work out. The REPUBLICAN is in such bad shape now they will do anything to make OBAMA look bad. In the long run WE DON'T BELONG THERE.

why not, as with the Serbian conflict,
go to the World Court in The Hague,
and get Assad indicted as a war criminal.

then we can go after him personally (cut off the head of the snake).

I don't see why we need to be involved at all over there.

We already have quite the hangover from Iraq and Afghanistan. And, for all of our intervention, we still don't have very good friends in either place.
