No need to legislate windmills. They are an economic dead end. They are only as good as the tax subsidies, handouts and other government welfare they receive. Once the welfare ends the windmills get abandoned. Unfortunately abandoned windfarms truly are ugly eyesores.

WI Lawmaker Aims to Restrict Wind Turbine Locations! Place wind turbines in areas that are not sensitive to visual pollution and are in an area well away from people, homes and occupied areas. Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

LOL, afraid to go pick up the book by Dr. Pierpont are we Cakes?
I reckon so as you seem to be in quite the denial stage and afraid of the truths coming out about the Eco-imperialist agenda you shill for!
Never fear the truth Cakes!

Still no citations on your point!
Too many of use live near Wind Farms without adverse effects. Note Hemond's comments too.
I hope there will be more hypochondriacs in this area as Hemond's idea of buying and flipping their homes is great! LOL!

No lover of windmills here. But there are 3 gigantic ones across the street from me and they cause no problems whatsoever to me or my neighbors. They are totally silent. They are in fact soothing and fascinating to watch. They add a picturesque element to the skyline. People are abandoning their homes? Where? I'll buy those homes up at firesale and flip them.... No, the thing which will kill windmills is they are an economic disaster. But as far as health issues, well that's a non issue, at least for me it is.

Cakes, go pick up the book Wind Turbine Syndrome by Nina Pierpont, MD, PhD.
It is a peer-reviewed report by Pierpont a Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine-trained M.D. and Princeton Ph.D.
There you can read the truth for.......

Hogwash...lets get some citations to support, "hundreds of such cases of Wind Turbine Syndrome"!
Just what is Eco-Imperialism anyway?

You are quite right obimerill. You see, one would have to ignore the reports of doctors such as Australia’s Sarah Laurie, Canada’s Nina Pierpont and Britain’s Amanda Harry who have collated hundreds of such cases of Wind Turbine Syndrome. And you’d have to reject the expertise of the acoustic engineers, sleep specialists, epidemiologists and physiologists who all testify that the noise generated by wind farms represents a major threat to public health. If this were the nuclear industry, this is a scandal which would be on the front pages of every newspaper every day for months on end!
You see, there are thousands of cases of illness caused by Pig Wind all over the world. A prime example of Eco-imperialism at work.

I think wind is a dead end technology, but I live about 2 blocks from 3 giant turbines and I never had an issue. I sure can't hear them. And they are kinda cool to watch. But they are a big boondoggle, a total waste of money...They are only built because there are tax incentives and government handouts. Otherwise no one in their right mind would ever build one.

Most people wouldn't move in next to some but these things tend to move themselves, figuratively speaking, next to people.

“. . . the win [sic] turbines can be installed with silencers to get rid of adverse noise . . .”
That’s BS. There have been some improvements in newer turbines but the issues are unresolved.
“. . . the other adverse effects seem to be made up problems by the anti wind power people.”
Perhaps similar to the made-up benefits of wind turbines in AWEA propaganda.
“For the most part wind power has proven to be very successful.”
Spoken as a true AWEA loyalist, Davo. Try living close to a wind project and then see how you feel about it. Knowledge will set you free.

Aviator, your comments are generally well founded but you have obviously not done your homework on wind turbines. Being from New York you really ought to study up on this a little as it is a big issue there. Those who oppose wind turbines on the mountains and ridges of Virginia and New York are not in favor of building more fossil-fuel plants either but wind “power” in these and similar locations is a snare and delusion. These wind projects are not self supporting. For every MW of installed wind power there has to be a MW of conventional power (fossil, nuclear, or hydro) up and running as a backup for shifts in the wind, otherwise demand would not be met. There has never been a conventional power plant shut down or had its output curtailed due to the installation of wind turbines.

Now that experience has told us of problems with these big turbines this sounds like a good idea.

“How can bats run into the turbine blades? Don't they have sonar?”
They do but bats did not evolve with the need to dodge things that are moving in excess of 100 mph. Bat mortality at wind projects in certain areas is documented and mount into the thousands annually. Bats are very important for insect control and they are already stressed in the Northeast (not in WI) by white-nose syndrome. Bat protection is a major concern.
That said, fossil-fueled power plants have well-known issues of human health and environmental degradation. To be opposed to wind turbines in areas where they cause problems or are ineffective does not make one favor fossil-fuel plants. We need to move away from fossil fuels but the replacements need to work well. Wind power is nonfunctional in most of the eastern US. Beyond birds, bats, and human health, turbines in the eastern mountains are capable of generating only negligible amounts of electricity that is unreliable and non-dispatchable. Turbines here are erected for the purpose of harvesting tax benefits, not electricity. If those tax benefits were repealed that would be the end of the wind industry in the eastern mountains.
