White House officials defend natural gas

Energy Global -- Two senior White House officials have defended natural gas as part of the administration’s energy and climate change policies.

John Podesta, Special Advisor to the president, and John Holdren, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, have both reacted against recent criticism by some environmental groups about the administration’s backing of increased natural gas use.

Podesta told reporters: ‘If you oppose all fossil fuels and you want to turn that switch off tomorrow, that is a completely impractical way of moving towards a clean energy future’. He elaborated that immediately cutting out all fossil fuels from any strategy was ‘sort of an impractical suggestion.

Holdren said: ‘The basic story on methane, including from the LNG sector, is that the emissions...

wanna see what unmitigated coal burning does to people and their environment? Look at pictures from post-Soviet era East Germany, Poland and Russian enclaves.

Alaydown - "Of course that only applies to eliminating everyone but themselves."

Well, SOMEBODY's got to take care of the planet.

"They don't really care about the planet. They only care about their wacko socialist agenda."

No, that's a different group of 'Enviro-wackos'.

"Obama, the majority of DemocRATs and those who believe in global warming also fall into this category."

I really haven't noticed much of a "socialist agenda" from Obama. He talks it, a bit, but his actions are mostly (incompetently) pro-business.

CHSTornado - "Enviro-wackos fight every form of alternative energy, so what are we supposed to do for energy? Back to the stone age?"

Many "Enviro-wackos" regard humanity as an infection, to be reduced or eliminated until it no longer makes the planet sick.

OTOH, many of those who support coal regard humanity as merely a source of profit, and don't care how sick people get, as long as they continue to make them rich.

The rest of us need to find some middle ground, to be healthy and wealthy.

It seems that fuel (in whatever form) drastically fluctuates in price over the years. This has been especially true in regard to the price of oil and gas. There is no clear cut answer. For example: if homeowners want to save money on heating costs and convert to natural gas, the price will quickly rise due to "market demand" and often surpass fuel oil costs. Regardless of the type of energy, the price remains too high.

Two outright communists: Holdren and Podesta. And these advise the likewise president.

Killing coal kills America. That is their goal.

They don't pay the price. We do.

If they don't want natural gas, other petroleum products, no nuclear energy, then what do these environmentalists want? Nothing?

Clean energy will not come easy or very soon, however it will come and it needs to... we have to start changing our course now for a successful energy future.

Natural gas is worth defending. BUT, the government shouldn't have to defend it. Government should get out of the issue and let the market work it out.

They have a lot of natural gas in Washington, D.C. and they probably do not eat chili for lunch; and I like what someone said about throwing a match into Washington to see what might happen!

Honest environmentalists welome clean-burning natural gas, rather than coal or oil, as a temporary solution while "clean" renewable fuels are being developed. Meanwhile the ever-tightening environmental regulations are driving up the cost of all types of fossil fuels to balance the higher cost of producing "green" or renewable fuels.
